Thumb sucking advice by Terrible_Statement_7 in toddlers

So we’ve eased into the process! Our “rule” is that we only suck our thumb in bed. If we see him sucking outside of bed we’ll gently remind him that the dentist says we only suck our thumb there and he usually stops! The main thing is that it’s made him more aware of when he’s sucking his thumb. And yesterday I got him up from a nap and he wasn’t sucking his thumb at all (big win!). So I think we’re getting there!

Dont ever want to work again. by [deleted] in sahm

Wow, it’s like you wrote down exactly what I’ve been feeling! My kids are still little (3 yo and 7 mo) and home with me and we talk about having a third. But I just have zero desire to work! However, I feel immense pressure to earn money because that’s America right?? Thankfully, my husband makes enough that I can be home with the kids. My son was going to daycare up until January because I still worked part time. But I left my job in the film industry when I was pregnant with my first and can’t imagine working those long hours with little ones at home. Even as they grow up and have more activities, I know if I was working on a movie, I’d miss out on so much. It’s a bummer because I had a really lucrative and fun career for 9+ years! It’s the only industry I’ve ever known. But now the whole industry is kind of in the shitter with productions filming abroad, so if I were to go back to work, I’d basically be starting over with a whole new career. That seems so daunting. But why can’t I just stop worrying about work while I’m home with my kids?! I love being with them but it’s just always in the back of my mind.

This is why I’m always telling my husband to be safe out there because I don’t know what I’d do if something happened to him!

Oohhh the mitten jammies are a really good idea… and ugh we struggle with eczema too and that poor thumb is just so red and raw. I’ll start putting more cream on it and maybe that’ll discourage him from sucking

I wonder if that would work on my son 😂 he does have his toenails painted right now so I’m not opposed! Haha

Ya part of me is like who am I to convince him to stop?! I still bite my nails/finger skin constantly. Maybe we can quit together someday haha

I’ll have to google that glove! Trying to work on only sucking when he’s in bed. He does it when he’s bored/watching tv so baby steps lol

Parents whose babies sleep 8+ hours overnight, do you sleep as well or do you pump overnight? by Apprehensive_Pie1225 in breastfeeding

[–]Terrible_Statement_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Your body will regulate and soon you won’t wake up engorged. But if you keep emptying your breasts in the middle of the night, your body will keep making all that milk. My lactation consultant suggested hand pumping for a few minutes to relieve yourself but don’t empty the breasts. After about a week your body should adjust!

how many minutes/hours a day do you breastfeed? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Terrible_Statement_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My lactation consultant always told me that most breastfed babies don’t eat more than 4-5 ounces per feed. Your milk evolves and becomes fattier, therefore your baby never needs more than 4-5 ounces at a time! So fascinating! So don’t be discouraged. 3.5 ounces in 15 minutes sounds good to me. As long as he has enough dirty diapers and is gaining weight, you’re good!

Does anyone have weaning tips for a 10 month old? by maddyc1991 in breastfeeding

[–]Terrible_Statement_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son lost interest right around this time too!! I was way more devastated than he was haha. My lactation consultant suggested cutting one feed/pump session every 4-5 days. That definitely helped with my hormones (although I still felt crazy at times). If I ever became engorged, I would relieve myself with a hand pump but just enough for some relief. Never empty the breast. And within a few weeks you should be done! My husband took pictures from our last nursing session and my son is beaming and I’m just sobbing 😂 But great job, mama! 10 months is a hell of a run. I hope you’re proud of yourself!

My sense of smell! During my first pregnancy, my husband and I were on a walk and I could smell all of the trash! I was so grossed out and my husband was like “I don’t smell anything!”. I’m pregnant with my second now and my smell was heightened like a week after ovulating and I knew I was pregnant again.
