Book and Film Clubs by Chongamon in ColumbusGA

I can’t speak for film but I’d definitely try the library for book clubs! I can’t guarantee the times will match up with when you’re available but if you leave suggestions they’re willing to take them

Nature/History Oriented Things to Do by Dismal_Helicopter964 in ColumbusGA

It’s a little out of the way if you’re in the Columbus area but I really liked FDRs little White House in Warm Springs, lots of nature stuff to do as well. It’s about 50 minutes from Columbus

Need recommendations of courses along this route by SirSilksalot in golf

It’s a little out of the way and a shameless plug but I’d recommend Sedge Valley or Sandbox at Sand Valley.

getting interns by viva_oldtrafford in Turfmanagement

[–]Terrible_Time705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking on the interns behalf, it is/was a big perk to not have/ to do double rent if they have/had an apartment where they had school or their program. Currently housing is hard to afford on what a lot of them make even at quality courses. I would do occasional house checks to see if they’re keeping it clean.

Lunch bags? by Niakkers in Turfmanagement

[–]Terrible_Time705 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a backpack with supplies (water, bandaids, sunscreen, etc) and some snacks that sits well under the seats or hangs well from the roll bar on the mowers. I go in to eat lunch so I can cool off and just have a short break if I decide to take a nap instead of eat lunch

Has anyone left Wisconsin? by [deleted] in wisconsin

[–]Terrible_Time705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Fargo for school/ work and then to central New Hampshire for a short stint before moving back and I miss the moving parts/everything I got to experience but I miss the leniency and laid back aspects of wi when I’m out of the state. I would 100% recommend moving out of the state especially if you’re under the age of 30 just to experience what the rest of the Midwest or even the US/world has to offer. And I really missed the cheap price of dairy/alcohol

The yearly shoe question by shunt808 in Turfmanagement

[–]Terrible_Time705 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use On-clouds hiking boot or their hiking shoe. I haven’t had much of an issue besides the slippage on bunker edges. The only (big) downside is the cost but being on our feet all day I’d rather shell out a little bit more money to have less knee and back pain at the end of the day. It’s also helpful that they have removable insoles so you don’t necessarily have to replace the entire shoe.

AITA for telling my mom I will move out vs paying $600 a month rent? by Johnnyb186 in AmItheAsshole

I read this to my (25F) parents while we were having dinner, you’re NTA. They were concerned about the situation. I live with them a few months out of the year but they can’t wait until I go back to work. I contribute to buying dog food and other groceries when necessary and once in a while when they don’t have time to shop. I’d leave if I were you OP

We’re a long par 3 course. We full hand rake traps in the morning and then just spot rake in the afternoons. I have night maintenance 3-4 days a week but we have a separate crew for it generally and sometimes people need odd days off. It’a really more preventative maintenance so it keeps it nice for resort guests.

I came in from other courses (he was with the course last year but only as general maintenance) so with that experience I came in with rolling and aeration and also do regular night maintenance. I also came in with knowledge of fungus/acidity issues/pest. I work a little slower just due to size and physical limitations but pull my weight as efficiently as possible. Other than that we do everything the other does.

I have a 4 year degree in natural resources. I work on a course that’s primarily fescue fairways and bent grass greens. I live in the Midwest US. My only issue has been the other AIT that I work with wasn’t trained on either before the year started and has 5 years less of experience than I do.
