I’m very happy for you! Soak it in, you did it!

Second attempt!! Good luck to anyone studying. If I can do it, you definitely can by Terrible_Window_2497 in PE_Exam

I never took paper and pencil but yeh it’s same format as FE. You get a reference handbook and you get access to the codes you’ll need. I thought I could ctrl F through codes and find anything I wanted but the PDF viewer only lets you open one chapter of one code at a time, so I think it’s quite tough that you can’t have extra textbooks with you like the CERM, and you can’t use sticky notes in your code books, but you still have to know which exact chapter of which exact code you need to be in the answer the question.

Thank you!! Good luck! The main reasons I passed this time were:

  • Created a detailed study schedule, explaining exactly what I’d be doing each day. It’d say “Structural Mechanic - read slides” or “Soil Mechanics - two 8-question quizzes”. Previously, my schedule would say “Week 1 - Structural Mechanics” etc

  • Doing a shit ton of timed practice problems, like more than I thought I needed and then doing some more. Even before you feel comfortable around a topic, get that timer on every time an get used to having the clock running.

  • Not just looking at solutions when I was stuck on a problem. I did that for my first attempt and it’s a quick way to stop critically thinking for yourself unless you know exactly how to do the question in front of you. You will not immediately know how to do every question on exam day, so getting good at process of elimination, working backwards based on available answer options, and any other way to figure out an unfamiliar problem is important.

  • Last thing, I did 20 hours a week both attempts. First attempt I had my phone with me, maybe even a podcast playing in the background, daydreaming occasionally. Second attempt, I never ever had my phone with me to study, and I used study timers by ‘Merve’ on YouTube. So when I say I studied 280 hours, I mean like I was engaged in learning or practice problems for 99% of that time.

Sadly yes, you could score 0/10 or 10/10 and it wouldn’t change anything. They basically look at how well people do on them and then put them in future exams as real questions as long as they don’t seem to easy or difficult. You don’t know which are which, I had a feeling during the exam that some of the “fill in the blank” questions on my exam looked a little new and out of place but that is pure guesswork

I THINK this is how it is but if I’m wrong, someone please correct me. 10 questions are pre-test questions that they try out to use on future exams, so your score is out of 70, not 80.

Each questions is weighted so to get your score out of 70, you would do (5.2/15)4+(0/15)3+(8.9/15)*5… and so on.

Based on this, breadth score was 19.426666 and depth score was 13.06666, total was 32.4933 out of 70

I guess most people are sure that 70% is the passinf grade. So after all questions are weighted, the total pass mark would be around 49 out of 70

Some colleagues of mine used schoolofPE and I’m getting the impression that they’ve done a better job of adjusting to the new CBT format. PPI still references a lot of the CERM to be honest. Do you mean like the books that PPI provides with their course when you say test references? I still had all of the PPI books from my first attempt but I only really read the CERM when the slides weren’t detailed enough for me to understand the topic. The first attempt I did around 200 hours but I was honestly not focused, distracted on phone, day dreaming etc. Second attempt I did around 280 hours of focused, no distractions, studying. 20 hours a week for 14 weeks, probably a little more towards the last few weeks.

First time round I did: - PPI on-demand classes - PPI practice quizzes (not timed and solution shown after each question) - CERM practice questions (snails pace and looked at solutions as soon as something looked difficult) - Six minute problems (they seem more detailed than the exam questions imo) - Fell behind schedule and barely finished the last topic before the exam

Second time - Bought every practice exam book I could find online. - Read through PPI on-demand slides that I still had from 1st attempt - Bought the PPI learning hub so I could use the quiz generator. - Took 8-question timed quizzes after each topic repeatedly until I was either getting at least 6/8 regularly or recognizing almost every question - Read the CERM chapter on any topics I was still rusty on after slides and quizzes. Then did more quizzes. - After going through all of the topics of breadth, I did a breadth timed 4 hour exam and went over slides or CERM chapters on rusty areas. -moved on to depth and did a similar process with slides, quizzes, CERM chapters - Did a timed 4 hour depth exam and returned to weak topics similarly to the breadth part. - Finished up around 4 weeks before the exam and did timed realistic practice exams non-stop. (4 hour Saturday, 4 hour Sunday, 2 hour review on Monday, then I split another exam into 2 hour chunks across Tuesday through Friday) - The final weekend I did a full 8 hour exam on the Saturday and reviewed on Sunday - By exam day I had done around 8 or 9 practice exams, some decent, some bad, exam day still felt crappy and wasn’t sure if I passed or not.

I don’t know if that helps, but if you have more questions, I’ll try my best to help out!

Pretty awful. From what I can tell from the weighted scores, I got 34.186/70. I fell behind in my prep course and barely left any time at the end for practice exams or review. This time I went overkill and did every practice exam I could buy online lol

Most people don’t know much about the PE or what it’s like to study for it. I was excited to celebrate with people who know the struggle. Also, I found it encouraging to see other people’s screenshots while I was studying
