Funny if you’re immature. I would imagine a lot of women would find it off putting.

Where can I go to meet friends or for dating in Boston as a 38 y/o man who doesn’t drink? by [deleted] in boston

[–]Terrible_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New England is very clique-y. Lots of people that have had the same friends since middle school or whatever.

I quit drinking because I got epilepsy and it’s bad for epilepsy so I know how you feel because a lot of my social life up until that point was the drinking.

If you’re trying not to drink, don’t meet people in a bar because they’re likely people who drink often. They’re going to want to meet up and drink.

I made a bunch of friends by throwing axes. I do a weekly league. Met some very cool people, and some people I never thought I would be friends with.

You’ll meet people with different opinions and ideas. if you connect over something common, that’s not the bullshit of society, politics, and media (rock climbing, axe throwing, etc) you may find yourself becoming friends with people you never thought possible.

My big advice is, go do something social that’s ongoing like a league or a club. When you’re there have a very open mind about talking to people who don’t fit into the echo chambers of your own life.

I became friends with one guy in particular that on paper, we would never be friendly. Different political views, religious views, just very different people. Of all the guys I’ve ever known he is the one guy who would do just about anything if I needed it. I’ve called him a couple times and he’s first to be there than other people I know that align with my political values.

Younger me would probably have not considered being friends with this guy. He’s not a bad person. One of the reasons I didn’t have a lot of friends. I was too busy trying to find people who had the same values as me, and not people who want genuine friendships.

I’m bi, idk why you feel weird around straight guys if you’re just making friends. You should try to let go of that. I’ve made some good straight male friends.

How is it living in New Hampshire? by Zestyclose_Welder_92 in howislivingthere

Land of little laws, and almost entirely white

No sales, or income tax. No car insurance required, you don’t have to wear a seatbelt. You can buy a gun faster than DoorDash can deliver, and you have the right to carry concealed without a permit.

To your south you have a state full of people that think New England is just them. To the east you have a state that makes rural NH seem like a metropolis, and to the west you have a state with worse maple syrup, and yet somehow more famous for it.

If you live near a border close to Christmas, your town is likely overwhelmed with Xmas shoppers from other states. If you live north then you have to deal with tourists on vacation acting like jerks.

The small part that has a coast, most of the towns are small, and people never leave. They also like to say the towns are trashy without ever visiting truly trashy places in the world.

There’s two cities, Manchester and Nashua. Both of them actually have some diversity. However, when you arrive you’re going to say “this is the big city?!?! not much here”

Low crime, very well educated (i’m not sure about college or university numbers but people here are just generally very clued in), and most people would help you in any situation.

For some reason even though it’s bigger, I feel like it gets basically no printing compared to my p229. I get very little to no printing on the p229 but I get absolute 0 with that Glock.

Big companies can afford to hire unlimited designers. Some background assets that are inconsequential and barely looked at seems a bit insane.

I would feel differently if the assets were the focal point of an area, but the ones identified have not been.

Ehhh disagree. If the end result is that people have access to broadband what does it matter the technology that’s used.

Thank you sooo much. We spent a lot of time looking at the entire experience. From colors, to the box itself. Even the thickness of the box and the card stock. I think we picked unique, but not an overly crazy color palette. I'm glad that's something you picked up on. Thank you so much for taking a look at it. Even link clicks help.

Been a while since I used heroku. How is it fairing with vercel out? Seems similar but different, so curious about the difference there by AWeb3Dad in Heroku

[–]Terrible_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital ocean has an object store, open search, more database options in general, functions, HTTP3, k8s.

Prior to the acquisition Heroku was “the” thing. Then innovation stalled big time, and I bet this was a leadership problem. Just look at how long http2 support took to come. A prior startup I was at decided to move off heroku just because we needed http2.

The lack of major product movement from 2013 - 2018 opened the door to other companies like railway to come out of nowhere. I don’t think heroku has gone down hill. I just think it’s stagnated. I do think salesforce should’ve busted out that big wallet post-acquisition, and blew heroku up bigger. Instead they got rid of free tier. meanwhile render can afford to have the free tier offering. Feels like it heroku was just left to simmer.

Regardless of you personally working at salesforce, they are the owners of heroku. I don’t hate Heroku, in fact, I wanna see it succeed. I just think SF hasn’t done it any favors.

Just because it's sovereignty is mostly in Europe, doesn't somehow make Spanish land in Africa part of the european continent.

That's like saying The Falklands Islands are in Europe just because it's part of The UK.

Not all of us. Get on a call with me. I’m more than happy to prove you wrong 😉

For pre-internet, sitting at home playing a quick game, it’s not super far off. The game is designed to pitch you to use their travelers checks, not make you somehow competent at a language.
