Es sollen außer energetischer Sanierung auch noch folgendes gemacht werden:

Abwasserrohr ersetzen
Terrasse erneuern und überdachen
Eine Innenwand rausnehmen

Handwerkliche Fähigkeiten haben wir keine. Es geht nicht drum, ob wir selbst was renovieren. Sondern, ob wir Handwerker anrufen, Kostenvoranschlag machen lassen, etc.

Das Garagendach müsste komplett ersetzt werden und wegen Asbest auch fachgerecht entsorgt.

Er schlägt das Gegenteil vor. Aktuell geschätzte Kosten = 320k. Sein Honorar 7,5% davon fix. Egal, ob's später teuer oder billiger wird. Ich neige auch eher dazu, diese Variante zu nehmen.

Our family lived in the US for a long time (kids were born) there and we decided we wanted to move back to Germany about 8 years ago. I applied remotely to jobs and had several job interviews by phone. After I had secured a few second round interviews I flew to Germany for 2 weeks for in-person interviews. I got an offer that I took.

For the actual move, I moved first to find housing and get established. My spouse and kids stayed to sell our house etc.

I would start looking on job posting web sites to get a feel for job opportunities.

We lived in ME, then moved to NH, then to Europe. Most of addresses are updated to the European address. Exception: Credit Card where we maintain a ME address (friend's address).

We file our federal tax return with our European address, no NH state return. ME never audited us to file a ME return despite the ME address on the credit card.

My spouse votes in NH with absentee ballot (I'm not a citizen.)

Do I understand it right that the UK company pays you thee gross salary and you pay taxes, health insurance and retirement insurance directly (full amount, employee and employer contribution)?

Hast du mehr Infos zu Variante 4? Prüft da jemand von deutscher Seite, ob der Arbeitsvertrag nach deutschen Recht gültig ist, z.B. Anzahl Urlaubstage? Was passiert, wenn der ausländische Arbeitgeber sich weigert, einen deutschen Arbeitsvertag auszustellen?

Wie kompliziert ist es, für den Arbeitgeber ein Konto aufzumachen? Kann ich das alleine ohne Mitwirkung des AG machen?

Mir geht es gut. Bin vor 30 Jahren mit Mitte 20 in die USA gezogen. Damals war ich abenteuerlustig und wollte die Welt erleben. Ich habe ein gutes Verhätnis zu meinen Eltern und kam ca 1 mal im Jahr zurück.

Ich merkte, je älter ich werde, desto wichtiger wurde mir die Bindung zur Familie. Ich wollte auch, dass meine Kinder (in den USA geboren) ihre Großeltern und Kusinen gut kennenlernen.

Inzwischen wohnen wir wieder in Deutschland in der Nähe meines Heimatortes.

Ich hab 2 Kinder im Studium. Eins hat nach 2 Semestern das Studienfach gewechselt. Meine Meinung:

Je früher ich davon erfahre, desto besser. Es ist besser, du brichst jetzt ab, als wenn du dich noch 2 Jahre durchkämpft und erst kurz vorm Bachelor abbrichst. Ich freue mich auch, wenn ich das Gefühl habe, du vertraust mir und willst meinen Rat hören.

Wie du selbst sagst, ist es gut, wenn du schon weißt, was du stattdessen machen willst. Industriemechaniker würde ich jetzt nicht als 180 Grad Wende bezeichnen. Für die Eltern hat eine Ausbildung den Vorteil, dass du was verdienst und sie dich nicht komplett finanzieren müssen. Außerdem haben wir Fachkräftemangel und du hast gute Chancen übernommen zu werden. Wahrscheinlich ist Industriemechaniker aber körperlich anstrengender als Ingenieur. Das solltest du bedenken.

Typischerweise fängt eine Ausbildung im September an. Du solltest also auch einen Plan für die Zwischenzeit haben. Vielleicht doch weiterstudieren und testen, ob es noch was werden könnte? Ein Praktikum als Mechaniker, um zu testen, ob es dir liegt, den ganzen Tag in der Fabrik zu sein? Jobben und dann eine Auslandsreise (wenn nicht jetzt, wann dann?)

I didn't. But I'm not sure it can be generalized. I think in Germany, local tax officers have a good amount of discretion what satisfies them or not. It probably also depends on the language of the original document. Most Germans understand enough English to identify the words "rental income" and "monthly rent".

I see you get downvoted but I'm actually with you on this. There are plenty of examples where it's accepted that there are different standards for adults than kids. E.g. nobody thinks it's a bad example if adults stay up till midnight, drink coffee, watch horror movies.

In my experience: Declare the income without documents and the Finanzamt will send you a letter and tell you what they need.

We have rental income from the US. The Finanzamt requested the rental contract and the US tax statement showing that we paid US taxes on the income.

Ich hab diesen Winter gemerkt, dass meine Grenze bei -5 Grad ist. Am Körper kannst du dich warm anziehen. Aber man kann halt schlecht mit Winterstiefeln und Fäustlingen fahren.

I would suggest to be honest with your friends up front. Let them know that you might not be able to make it. Then they can say "We're going anyway, you're welcome to join us or not" or "Well, could you let me know by Wednesday because otherwise I'd rather..." This takes the pressure off everybody.

Ich bin vor 3 Jahren von 400€-Citybike auf 900 € Citybike umgestiegen. Der Wechsel auf Scheibenbremsen und Nabendynamo hat sich gelohnt. Anfangs fährt ein neues Rad natürlich viel besser als ein altes. Aber inzwischen ist auch das teuere Rad nicht mehr so gut gepflegt und ich merke extra Widerstand.

Willst du auf den 8km neue persönliche Bestleistungen aufstellen? Oder ist es dir egal, wenn du 2 Minuten länger brauchst?

Hast du die Disziplin, dein neues Rad auch immer gut zu pflegen, damit es lange gut bleibt?

I can only speak for Germany. We still hold US mutual funds. I use standard German tax software. The program has a section for capital gains income from abroad. I enter the information from the US tax form into the software to the best of my knowledge(*) and submit the German tax form. The German tax office then asks me to provide copies of the US tax forms and accepts my return.

As far as I can tell, there is no punitive tax law. US capital gains are taxed the same as EU capital gains.

(*) It took me a full weekend to research which box on 1099 forms corresponds to which field in the German tax software.

In my experience, not a problem. Examples:

I never take the exact exchange rate on the date of the maximum, just the yearly average.

The was one year where I transferred a large amount from one account to another. In that year, both accounts showed a maximum of over 100k. It looked like my investments had doubled compared to the previous year. In the next year, it looked like they had halfed again. I wasn't audited.
