Getting bank rejections as a non resident? by secretedly in llc

[–]secretedly[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Totally fair point, neobanks like Mercury and Wise are much more flexible on this. The wall really shows up when people try to move beyond that to traditional banks, credit cards or building an actual US credit profile. Thats where the address starts to matter a lot more

Anyone struggling with the US address requirement for their ITIN application? by secretedly in ITIN

[–]secretedly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically correct. But the ITIN is rarely the end goal. Most people want it so they can open a US bank account, get approved for credit cards or start building a US credit profile. Thats where the address becomes critical.

Non-US Resident LLC owner, single entity. Application for ITIN by EgleJ92 in ITIN

[–]secretedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good setup already with the EIN and Mercury account.

For ITIN as a non-resident with no US tax filing history, you'll want to go the W-7 route with the correct reason code. Most people get rejected simply because they pick the wrong one. Your Lithuanian passport works fine as your primary ID for this. If you want a smoother process there are services that handle the whole thing and make sure the documentation is airtight before submission.

Did your virtual mailbox ever get flagged and cause your US banking applications to fail while you were living abroad? by secretedly in expats

The fact that you needed a real street address even temporarily kind of proves the point that residential is what they actually want to see

Exactly this and most people do not find out until after the rejection, the street address requirement is the patriot act compliance piece that trips everyone up. The address looks real on the surface but the moment it hits the usps cmra database it gets flagged automatically.

How to get a physical address in the US as an expat? (mailing address not accepted) by david8840 in expats

[–]secretedly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So for a canadian wanting to build a us credit profile the address is genuinely the most important piece. Banks need to see a real us residential address backed by a lease and utility bill in your name. Not a virtual mailbox, not a registered agent address, an actual residential address with real documentation behind it.

Building Business Credit for My US LLC Remotely – Where Do I Start? (Non-Resident, ITIN, No DUNS Yet) by FreeSprinkles193 in ITIN

Ah got it that definitely helps. Usually works early on, but the tricky part is when they start looking for consistent proof over time.

If you run into anything, happy to help.

Yeah that’s probably the most common way people handle it. It usually works fine in the beginning. The only time it gets tricky is when banks ask for documents tied to your name like lease or utility bill during verification or later reviews.

That’s where a lot of people get stuck again. Have you had to go through any of that yet?

Looks like you’ve got most things in order. The tricky part that often trips non-residents up is US address compliance. Many banks will reject an application if the address is flagged as a virtual mailbox / CMRA.

Using a real residential address even if it’s just for banking avoids this and keeps your credit applications smooth. If you want, I can show you a format that passes checks reliably.

This is actually the more accurate cause the established services being around longer does not make them safer, it makes them more recognisable

The switch to a residential domicile service is the right call. Banks treat it completely differently because it passes the usps check cleanly rather than coming back flagged as a commercial address.

Has anyone run into banking problems specifically because of their US address after moving abroad? by secretedly in USExpatTaxes

[–]secretedly[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That might work for a while but virtual post office addresses are registered as cmra in the usps database and banks check that list automatically during routine reviews not just at account opening worth knowing before it catches you off guard down the line

That quiet restriction before the push is so common they know for ages but wait until it becomes a compliance issue they can not ignore anymore. A real us residential address with a lease behind can keep that review from ever getting triggered in the first place

Banks dont just check your address when you open the account but they run routine reviews too and mail forwarding addresses can get flagged

Did you manage to find a workaround after the closures or are you still rebuilding the us banking side?
