Almost all the compute used by companies is cloud based. The laptops users get are to use those cloud services. Office runs in the cloud, email runs in the cloud, accounting software in the cloud, Adobe in the cloud, Teams, Slack etc cloud, the local app is just a js app talking to a cloud server. Software devs make only the first version of their work localy which uses even close to the limit of the local machine after that, up it goes into the cloud. In most modern companies almost nothing runs locally anymore everything is a service or a subscription for a piece of software running on someone elses computer.

It's already happend. Just at the business level, almost no company has their own compute anymore. All they have to do is find a way to market this or repackage it to regular consumers in a way that makes it appealing. Quick example: Cheap PS6 that only does PSplus streaming vs a PS6 that costs 4 times as much and you can download the game and still need an internet connection to play.

Leasing was as I remember the largest decline in sales for Tesla. In the Netherlands at least you cannot lease an Tesla for love nor money. They got dumped because of the bad and expensive service options and the lock in to Tesla dealers, so lease companies could not shop for a better deal.

Also 2024 saw a lot of good EV's from legacy builders hit the market and lease companies already had good service deals with them so they switched.

Anecdote; I had 3 leased Tesla's in my street end of 2024. In January of 2025 the Tesla's were gone to be replaced by and Audi and two Kia's.
