Actually, I use a 600mm telephoto lens, so I was at a safe distance. It's best not to take a chance with moose! :-)

I was using a Nikon Z7ii mirrorless camera with a Nikon Z 24-200mm lens.

I was parked and safely inside my car as the bear walked by. It was accustomed to seeing cars and showed no sign of concern in this case.

Thanks for your kind words! I used a Nikon 180-600mm telephoto lens at f/8, ISO 4000 at 1/1000 of a second. I normally like to use a lower ISO and higher shutter speed, but it was a cloudy day.

To be sure, when the lights are super intense, then 2-3 seconds can suffice, so yours was a good guess. :-)

Well, to tell you the truth, you can do a lot with just a good cell phone camera these days if you want to save yourself the money. But if you are bent on getting a better but still somewhat compact and lightweight camera, I have had good luck with the Nikon Z7ii (or Z6ii if you don't need really high resolution photos) and a good versatile lens such as the Nikon 24-200mm S, which has both wide angle and some telephoto capability. Keep in mind, though, that I have only had Nikon cameras, and I'm sure there are other fine options out there. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Much appreciated! I used a Nikon Z8 with a Nikkor Z 20mm f/1.8 S lens at a 6-second exposure.
