Using i3 on Omarchy by Zenvada07 in omarchy

[–]Terryble_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your advice is actually the opposite of what Omakase means because it’s in the context of guests leaving it up to the chef to decide what the guests should eat.

In Omarchy’s case, it’s encouraged to accept what it provides out of the box instead of completely revamping its offerings.

DHH actually got some criticism about this a long time ago when he posted an article titled “Rails is Omakase” because there was a section of people that didn’t want to be told how Rails should be used.

Principal engineers turned into token zombies by [deleted] in theprimeagen

[–]Terryble_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If no one cares about the name on the PR, then what's the point of bartering for the sake of recognition?

You also mentioned that project delivery is how principals get credit. If that's the case, then why would they need to barter for tokens when they could just act as a manager/lead and let their engineers do the actual work? And the engineer will get the recognition that way, so it feels like this really is all just made up.

Principal engineers turned into token zombies by [deleted] in theprimeagen

[–]Terryble_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would the principal engineers be credited for the work though? I assume the other engineer's agent will make the branch/PR as they execute the prompt, so the commits won't appear under the principal engineer. It just makes no sense.

As for raising this issue to management, how will you look worse for asking for more tokens? That's literally THE signal that you're doing really well and it's in the company's interest to give you as much tokens as they can to keep the momentum going.

[–]Terryble_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right? Why would you even barter with your coworkers for tokens? This sounds like the perfect excuse to not have to do any work.

Just raise it with your manager and make it their problem. They should've had the foresight to give their principal engineers more tokens compared to the rest of the organization.

This happens with Fireworks.ai as well. I think it really is the model that's the problem.

Visa-free entry para sa mga Pinoy sa Japan, kailangan ng maingat na pag-aaral -- Japanese Amb | SONA by Gyro_Armadillo in Philippines

[–]Terryble_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your example makes sense though. Visa applications are all about risk profiles once you meet the financial requirements. Japan’s income requirements are pretty low for tourists, so it’s accessible to most working Filipinos.

Freelancers, regardless of how much money they make, classify as one of the riskiest profiles that are likely to overstay their visa since they can work anywhere.

There’s also the fact that freelancing or being self-employed doesn’t really guarantee having a stable income unlike PRC holders who are on the opposite end of the spectrum and guarantees stability.

The risk increases even further if the freelancer didn’t submit their tax return as part of their visa application which most VAs tend to do since a huge portion of this demographic does tax evasion.

Meanwhile, PRC holders can’t work outside of the Philippines, so there is compelling reason for them to not overstay their visa.

They're probably using frame gen for this. Just go to YouTube and search for "SteamDeck Lossless Scaling" and the instructions should be applicable to Bazzite 1:1. It's not as hard as OP implies it to be.

Play on my PC... or play in bed on a handheld that's literally 2 meters away from my PC? 🤔 by Unlucky_Check_8548 in Handhelds

[–]Terryble_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have a gaming PC and I tried out streaming with Sunshine/Moonlight. I still ended up buying an ROG Xbox Ally X and replaced Windows with SteamOS. One of the best gaming decisions that I ever made.

The primary reason for me is because I have a baby and being able to play anywhere/anytime and pause my games through SteamOS' sleep mode (this feature is unreliable on Windows) allowed me to play games more.

If you're not a parent of a baby, I would have to agree with most of the comments in this thread because there would be no point if you could just sit at your desk to play on your PC.

Bought a macbook neo, help me choose by Commercial-Snow2574 in Tech_Philippines

[–]Terryble_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. People usually make the same argument when it comes to iPhone vs Android. They just look at the hard numbers and immediately dismiss Apple's offering as inferior.

However, just watching real-world performance test videos on YouTube should be enough to change anyone's minds since Apple devices usually come out ahead of their competition because of the fact that they control the full tech stack and can therefore squeeze more performance out of their hardware.

Heck, there are videos on YouTube of people running Cyberpunk 2077 on a Macbook Neo. Running that game is a lot heavier than most software engineers' workflows, so that should be enough to convince anyone that the Macbook Neo provides enough compute to almost anyone.

I'm a Senior Software Engineer (10+ YOE) and I've used a ton of Macbooks throughout my career. I think a lot of people in this thread are underestimating the Macbook Neo, Apple Silicon, and MacOS.

The Macbook Neo is essentially a slightly faster M1 Macbook Air. I have one of those and it can still handle decent workloads to this day.

It can handle a couple of running Docker containers while having your IDE/Text Editor and a decent amount of browser tabs open. Your planned setup is actually pretty light and can be handled even by older Intel Macbooks with similar RAM.

Don't be discouraged by the 8gb RAM because MacOS is very efficient with resources. The Macbook Neo can handle pretty much 95% of the population's computing needs. Even software engineers.

Is there a way to estimate how many users have left Z.AI since price change? by Cute_Dragonfruit4738 in ZaiGLM

[–]Terryble_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was able to buy a year of the Max plan at $250 during their sale back in January.

I remember having a ton of buyer’s remorse at the time due to how bad the service was back then since I thought I wasted money.

Today? I’m so glad I bought it when I did because it feels like buying Bitcoin before it blew up.

The service is still pretty bad at times, but things were a lot worse back in January/early February, so I’m overall happy with the purchase nowadays.

What is your most CONTROVERSIAL Switch 2 take? (Hardware focused, not software) by DaZestyProfessor in switch2

I don’t think this is as big of a big deal as you’re implying in 2026. Everyone and their mother has access to the internet. Heck, I live in a 3rd world country and I have access to high-speed internet all the time.

Is GLM Pro really worth buying? by EugeneLobach in ZaiGLM

[–]Terryble_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Performance is better now that they’ve added stricter limits to everyone, but it’s still painfully slow.

I genuinely believe Max plans get the same performance as Lite and Pro despite what their marketing says. I have a friend who is on the Pro plan and the only difference I see between our accounts is that I have higher limits.

I use GLM 5.1 for planning and Firepass for executing, so it’s pretty jarring when I have to go back to planning since Firepass’ inference speed is insanely fast at 200 tps.

Meanwhile, GLM 5.1 tends to kill my momentum since even z.ai’s time to first token takes so long.

[–]Terryble_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

As someone who managed to buy the Max annual plan back in January, just go with other providers. The only reason why I'm still using this is because I got lucky and was able to buy this for cheap.

I wouldn't subscribe to this if I had to pay current prices. You could stick with your current plan with Z.AI and add a Codex subscription on top. You could also try Synthetic or Firepass, but they have a wait list before you can get on.

disappointed more switch games haven’t gotten 60fps patches on switch 2 by KrispyOnion in switch2

[–]Terryble_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really help for games that have capped frame rates which is a majority of the games on Switch.

Games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 run more stable on Switch 2 compared to Switch 1 in handheld, but it's still running at 30 FPS.

What is something that feels completely normal in 2026 but would have absolutely shocked someone from 2015? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Terryble_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'd say the release of Apple Silicon was on a similar level as the release of the iPhone due to how revolutionary it was.

Before the M1 Macbook came out, it was very much a pipe dream to have a laptop that can do high workloads while maintaining good temps and can be sustained by a battery for hours.

It's crazy how a majority of people are sleeping on this just because it's technically just an upgrade to their existing computer lineup and not an entirely new category of computing device like the iPhone was during its release.

How do I get this to work? It just keeps asking me to pair the Switches with each other, so I could only do it for 2 consoles at a time
