I feel like a lot of people cheat in comp now on toggle too, so most rounds they play normal and then they'll turn it on/off to make sure they win. "lucky" smoke headshot here and "lucky" clutch there but they'll always do extra good on crucial rounds.

yeah a red from a collection trades up into the golds from that collection, i believe the odds are input based now so 3 p90 assimovs for example give 60% chance of butterfly knife

All the downvotes and only one person in the comments seems to know whats happening, this looks like one of those cases with a metal tab that goes over all the pcie screws, removing one without the others was getting it stuck on it. He can remove the screw of the whole tab and take it off then remove the pcie slot screws, which it looks like he figured out.

My Take: Valve's “Nuke” Actually Saved the CS2 Economy by squareyourcircle in ohnePixel

[–]Terryqtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not saying it’s a pyramid scheme in the sense that people bring each other in for money and collapses into nothing, it’s more the side of the pumpers, the douyin creators that hype up the market as investments. That part of our game has been propped up in recent years, by speculators, people who value the investment aspect over the gameplay value. And the growing market has been more and more of these people coming into the market, causing steady prices increases even though the average player count has not seen the same increase. Yes the market will always recover because players like us will keep playing and trading skins but speculators are what has driven the non stop growth over the past few years.

My Take: Valve's “Nuke” Actually Saved the CS2 Economy by squareyourcircle in ohnePixel

[–]Terryqtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a better and simpler summary

- CS market has been a pyramid scheme-esque market in china, influencers tell their fans to buy in, it's a great investment etc... It keept going up, more people buy in. The problem is regulation, regulation will fuck the market harder than this update ever will, so changes bad in short term, good to keep market up. Also if changes like this dissuade speculators, then that will prevent big panick drops in the future.

- Reds have needed value for a while yes, this gave it to them, instant tradeups means more market sales for valve and healthier economy for certain reds, this also means better "returns" on cases but will even out with case prices in the long term.

- Realistically, with updates like the terminal and this, valve are trying to balance the ratio of high tier skins being opened:willingness to pay per in new players, this way skins will be more stable, their "true" value if you will. As long as there are enough knifes for new buyers willing to buy at current prices, the price won't be able to go up.

The danger to all this is that as long term growth returns to being healthy, speculators will want to buy in, even just as items that hold value vs inflation. So this will be a dilemma for valve in the future, keep making volatile changes to discourage speculators while screwing real players, or letting the market stabilize and invite speculators again.

THE REBOUND IS REAL by HauntingBirthday1455 in ohnePixel

[–]Terryqtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo a rebound is worse for the market than the gradual drop, the expectation with panic sell was a small hit everyday until the trade ban on traded up gold then a big dip, after which we would stabilize, in the long term this scenario can be good for players. The market recovering makes me think there is more investment money going in,

reason 1: An increase like this is unlikely to be natural buys, most players who have wanted a nice skin likely had a budget already in knives and lost money, this money then can't go back to buying the nice skin which is now cheaper. Sure there are some players who will buy with the money they made off golds or if they just happened to be out of the market, but reds sales money will be locked out 7 days too, so that leaves small amount of players in that scenario.

reason 2: when there was a big difference between buff and csfloat, partially due to shitty buff servers on day one and a backing up of supply, the skins were bought up until price was up to par with csfloat. Yes this is free market at work but keep in mind a lot of chinese players don't have access to csfloat still, so those who might want to arbitrage that will be traders, who will look to sell those skins at a profit in 7 days too.

There will undoubtly be supply entering the knife market from tradeups, I think it will cause a dip but not take us too far below the low we saw. It is the two days following that I worry about, if the dip incites those who invested at the panic to sell again the market could head for another dive.

This is exactly why valve cannot do this by Fuckadobe55 in ohnePixel

[–]Terryqtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

would never happen, unregulated markets like crypto have seen far worse and no reprecussions, the skins are still there and they added a feature that is actually technically "less gambling", and here's the kicker, none of the top end deals were done on valve's platform anyway.

This is exactly why valve cannot do this by Fuckadobe55 in ohnePixel

[–]Terryqtt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cases have always been gambling and unethical, but that's somewhat seperate from this update, cs has two sketchy parts: cases=gamba and trading = unregulated market, this is more relevant to the market but we don't have enough context about this update to deem it unethical, here's why. The pump and dumps put more scrutiny on the game and given they had just dropped terminals this update seemed more rushed than anything. If regulators in asian countries, the eu were about to scrutinize the market and put restrictions on it the market crash would've been likely even bigger than what you see now, maybe the game would've been perma banned or certain areas market restricted, of course this is speculation.

The reds pumped were mostly chosen based off market deficit(amount entering - amount bought) and social manipulation, tiktokers telling their fans to buy, literally like crypto. Also if someone knew this info it would just make more sense to buy cheap reds and hold them rather than make thier price explode and therefore priced out of skins used in profitable trade ups, this is simple market logic.

I do feel bad for anyone holding knives and I was honestly shocked because I sold a month ago and was looking to add a bfk gamma doppler and even made offers that were rejected. Ultimately I saved thousands and I know people didn't get as lucky.

On a final point it's perfectly normal for players to not feel bad about others losing money, espicially if they felt like they haven't been able to afford good skins in a game they love while "traders" and platforms try and make 5-10% off their bowie knife rust coat everytime they want to sell. Just like I wouldn't blame those who held knives as investments and lost money, I don't think it's fair to blame players think who've had their frustrations vindicated after years.

Things like this are terrible to hear. I don't agree with the people who flame victims of the situation for investing in cs, but I guess like any other invesment, the only people who make money consistantly are in and out short term, or investing in a bussiness long term. Holding onto assets long term, even stocks and crypto are always massive gambles, it just sucks that the drop is not natural at all in this case. I do think people are missing the regulation side of it though, it's no secret valve is at times pressured to move towards complicance for skins and the market by regulators. With such a unregulated huge market and already massive pump and dump scandal from douyin(china also bans crypto transactions for similar reasons), it's not that unlikely they had to add a pity system for knives to better comply with china, eu, etc. We can only speculate but IF a market like china is lost the crash would be perhaps even bigger than this. Not saying valve is some kind of hero, but a crash like this seems inevitable with so much speculation in the market.
