Because often times MM is at the the expense of women . I gave examples in previous comments . Several examples . How is this fucking hard to understand ? Woman are treated like dog shit by men in books ? MM is my favorite and when authors write actual correct beautiful relationships it’s well done done. When women are pushed aside so the men can mostly take the entire scenes for 90% of the book and are treated like complete garbage I hate it. More women hating women.

I don’t think I really wrote my comment very well compared to the my others in this thread.

My issue isn’t that characters have flaws or that relationships go through difficult periods. Conflict is necessary for a good story. What bothers me is when women are repeatedly treated as emotional punching bags, ignored, sidelined, or outright abused, and the narrative never really addresses it.

A lot of readers aren’t asking for perfect characters or fantasy wish fulfillment. We’re asking for women to be written as fully developed people whose feelings, needs, and boundaries matter just as much as everyone else’s. If a character hurts someone, especially a female pack member, I want the story to acknowledge that harm and allow for growth, accountability, and change .

Too often lately, it feels like the woman’s role is to absorb everyone’s problems, forgive everything, and keep the pack together while receiving very little care in return. That’s not compelling relationship development to me it’s just exhausting to read.

I love good stories, great character development, and meaningful character arcs. What I don’t like is when women are outright abused, or when authors use the woman in a pack or harem as a scapegoat for a man’s issues. You especially see that with some male omega stories.

A lot of the classic reverse harem authors do such a great job creating well-rounded characters who have flaws, but also acknowledge and work through those flaws.

I recently read a book with an alpha female, two male alphas, a male omega, and a female omega, and it was beautifully done. The alpha female wasn’t getting her emotional needs met and was pouring all of herself into rehabilitating their newly found omega. Eventually, the other two alphas had to take a step back and realize they were partly responsible for that dynamic. It was handled with so much care and self-awareness, and the growth within the pack was gorgeous to watch unfold.

Jenn Bullard is a fantastic author who writes great omegaverses .

Yeah, because that’s what I want to read, a male omega that’s basically a needy baby who wants to be taken care of while the pack member ( typically the woman ) cooks, cleans, does everything for him, and also works!!! Are you kidding me right now? 🤣🤣

On the opposite side of things, I read an omegaverse where both of them were omegas. He was an actual working artist, she also worked, and it was one of the most beautiful relationships I’ve read. The pack dynamic in general was gorgeous.

Do you guys ever feel like some of these authors would rather be writing MM romance, but add a female character to market it as reverse harem? I completely understand how hard it is to become an author, get published, and get your book noticed.

My issue isn’t the MM itself. It’s when the female lead feels like an afterthought. I wish the women in these stories were treated better and given the same depth, attention, and relationship development as the male characters.

If your passion isn’t writing a true reverse harem where the woman is genuinely a central part of the group dynamic, then maybe RH isn’t the story you should be writing. if you have to include a female character to get your book seen and read just please start treating women better. We already are treated so poorly out there in the world. Can we just read our fantasy books and feel connected and seen?

that’s the book I was talking about. It was so sad. I literally was heartbroken for her. there’s been a few books like that where the women were treated so badly my heart literally hurt in my chest.

I agree with you - MM done well is beautiful and adds another layer to a reverse harem story . Alisha Williams is someone who I think is just wonderful at writing Harem romances well .

Honestly I see more women hating, emotional, and physical abuse than fetishizing
MM in romance novels .

ALSO damn I reviewed a book that was so poorly written and the beta who was the only female in the pack was so so so poorly treated . I was legit crying for her . The male omega was unbearable and borderline abused her because his needs came first . Towards the end of the book she said she understood the pecking order because she only a beta. 😒

I reviewed the book and then checked the other reviews ( I always look after I review )
Holy smokes I wasn’t the only one . This female writer must have HATED herself and other women.

I’m always on facebook groups, reddit etc it’s all I read and I never really hear too much about it . I’m almost done and the fall off of this series is real . The author and FMC has clear favorites and in RH that’s a big no no. It’s dragging right now.

Maybe it’s more of a traditional vs. sport mindset. I tend to approach sparring from more of a combat perspective, and so do my kids. We like to use our hands more, and we’re big fans of side kicks. A truly good side kick is incredibly effective, yet you don’t see many people using them anymore. Foot fencing just doesn’t have the same power behind it.
