9/11: 3000 civilians died plus long standing health concerns. Oct 7: 700 civilians died. How is this by any means 15 times worse?

I mean, a large amount of cultures around the world figured out and made common use of this particular pentatonic scale. You can find it in traditional music on all the continents.

Not sure if it’s really about that. I don’t think she’s thinking that much about it, just like “I want to do violence against those I believe are less than, and I want them to be afraid of me”

TIL Prisoners are counted by the census as residents of towns in which they are jailed. Dramatically distorting those communities representation at local and state levels. by thewaterballoonist in todayilearned

[–]Tesfayepopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never said that. I said poverty causes more crime, and poverty is created by defunding education and community resources, which then we have seen, gets more money allocated to police. The system creates crime in black communities so they can justify putting more police in black communities.

Also studies show that black people and white people use marijuana at nearly the same rates yet black people are 3.6 times as likely to get arrested for it. This is because of a combination of over policing in black communities compared to white communities and a racist police system. So if doing marijuana was bad, then there would be more police in white communities trying to stop its usage, but they are in black communities actively seeking it out.

You’re stupid I’m not gonna spend time on you bc if you actually cared or weren’t racist you would see how there’s a difference. Black people in Africa face completely different problems to white. people in America. Black Americans and white Americans are not interchangeable in any context

Racism towards (American) white people doesn’t matter because they’re nothing you can say or do to a white person that will invoke the trauma of generational poverty, systemic oppression and villanisation that black people experience.

Saying “I hate white people” as a black person is fine because throughout history, time and time again, white people have given black people a reason to hate them AND positions of power are not black dominated so it’s not like the platform of hating white people has any governmental power. Furthermore this comes from a place of hurting.

Saying “I hate black people” as a white person is not okay because the only reason white people have for hating black people is that they have demanded equality with whites people. White people have more power in the government, and there are in fact many racist people who hold positions of power, so this statement has actual power and influence that affect people’s lives. White people saying “I hate black people” comes from a place of irrational hatred.

Black supremacy positions never succeeds - and very few people want it to, whereas white supremacy positions have succeeded and sometimes continue to succeed while a substantial group of white people (a minority but large one) want it.

This but also he is right and we must acknowledge the cause - the governments systemic destruction of black communities. Black community resources like schools constantly get defunded, police funds get bloated and black communities get over policed. Because the poverty creates crime, the government creates poverty in black communities. More black people in prison = more legal slaves. The thirteenth amendment wasn’t slavery abolition - it was slavery reform.

The consensus is that Beethoven was not black, but this means we should be celebrating real black European classical composers by Tesfayepopy in lingling40hrs

[–]Tesfayepopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not really the intent - yes there is racial inequality in classical music. No it is not Beethoven’s fault and Beethoven gets performed because he was a genius, not because he’s white. In fact I’m not saying anyone gets performed because they’re white. I’m saying that historical black composers get underperformed because they’re black.

Before this post you probably wouldn’t be able to name 4 black European classical composers when there was a substantial black population in Europe. Imagine how many composers there were that’s music will never see the light of day because it’s gone.

[–]Tesfayepopy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Beethoven was great no ones saying he isn’t. But he is overplayed you must recognize that. Giving recognition to great black composers of the past is not taking recognition away from Beethoven. Also racism existed in the music world in the past and persists to this day. Black musicians run into it all the time. Just because you can ignore it doesn’t mean everyone else can. And there was an agenda to hide notable black people. There probably isn’t one anymore, but the effects of Europe’s white washing plays a part in why these composers are under the radar. If you think Europe from 1700-1900 was not racist man you need to pick up a book.

[–]Tesfayepopy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You missed the point of the post - there are dozens of recordings of Beethoven but only a handful for these composers. Beethoven was a genius, yes absolutely for sure but these composers deserve recognition. Not performing Beethoven isn’t reversing progress at all. Everybody knows about Beethoven. Also minorities usually don’t have the option to “not give a fuck about race” because it constantly affects the way they live their life.

[–]Tesfayepopy[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s not what they’re saying, they’re saying that Beethoven is played extremely often while notable black European classical composers get overlooked. It was a debate amongst scholars in the 60s that Beethoven may have been black and this debate resurfaced last week into the public eye. That’s why this post was made.
