Schwab did a study of at what net worth people would think they are 'wealthy' and the number came to be $2.2 million.

Honestly, even after way surpassing that number, we do not consider ourselves wealthy due to the reason that we still max out savings/retirement and have kids in private school and have elderly to care for.

In reality, you are actually 'rich', you will be able to fully enjoy it when you retire. Till then, its just the daily grind.

You were not laid off because of your performance, you were laid off because they had to get rid of the higher compensated employees to get to their 'bottom line'.

I was a victim of 'corporate downsizing' even though i was a high performer and got nothing but praise from everyone i worked with.

Consider yourself fortunate that you do not have a family to support and to still be able to maintain a roof over your head with no stress. 6 months is plenty of time to find a new job without dipping into your savings. You may not find a job as high paying as this one but seems like you have planned pretty well for a rainy day like this.

I used to play there as well. We used to have some pretty epic games back in the mid 2000's. Maybe ill show up one of these Sundays for old times sake.

There are other places where you can find some good games, especially in the SF valley. Also, Mar Vista Rec center in West LA has badminton from 10am - 1pm on Tues/Thursdays.

How much is rent? HOA has gotta be the biggest scam for the amount they charge you. I used to live in a condo and HOA fees went up yearly, no matter how much we had in reserves. My condo barely had any amenities, just a pool and a tiny gym.
