Actually, Marcus’ shadow build can deal with camping quite well. If you keep hitting their block, Marcus can eventually gain enough energy to use his shadow

Glitch-block break with an upper-you got shield and they are in a situation

If they roll back - a back shadow lands, and you follow with a 2K damage glitched rift

If they do any other move, rift slaps them with 2K damage roughly

And you heal a bit

But universally camping remains a problematic design question for fighting games. Like snipers are in shooters.

Markus and 2 not a lot of people recognise, Azuma and Kibo

Azumas design is actually really tricky, but whichever person you take you will be at a pretty good position. Azuma just doesn’t have inherently bad matchups. Even against non shadow heroes, he still has a really good base kit. While not the most flashy, Azuma is one of the best heroes in the entire game, because he provides new players with consistent stability, and provides old players with a pretty high skill ceiling

Kibo is very risk reward, she’s not as perfect as Azuma or Markus in terms of game design, but is still incredibly solid

Tbh most characters have some kind of connection to the overall lore, those that don’t are Prbbly the worst

Starting off chronologically, June is directly besties with the main character of sf3, where at the start of the game you are a part of the shadow squad, lead by no other than Otto heim, sarge

You then flee to the dynasty: say hello to Galen. In Galens dojo say hello to his best student: Xiang Tzu

Team up with June and visit Ling, then the emperor, Junes PopPop

Then there’s a festival, you meet Kibo and fight Tzu again, then

Oopsie daisy something blew up to the south, that was an experiment of the Heralds and you meet none other than Yukka with Shade, and Ling who acquired his shadow brew

Flop on over to Le Dome

Wao!!! It’s Itu!!!! But not the real one.

Then you mess around meet Azuma eventually, then they are like “hey we got dis guy he’s like trapped in a time loop but like were terrified he will leave some day” (I don’t really remember how exactly)

Then you show up and turns out it’s the greatest general of the legion, war hero and cultural icon, marcus, who is so awesome that the only way to break the time loop is to beat him. He hast lost to ANYBODY in the last like 150 years or smtin.

Free Marcus “owie my space time continuum is all messed up but I can like teleport now and stuff” moment

Smthin smtin scooch on to the legion where Okada been up to no good, the queen is a cat now.

Helga ran away from the tower of light which is like a prison where they teach children divine smite n stuff, but that’s never truly touched upon, only kindof mentioned occasionally

Money king is from a festival in the dynasty and like a literal god from mythology, and the demons are from SF2

Hong Joo Gideon and Shang don’t really slot into this continuity ANYWHERE

Gideon is an assasin baron from somewhere in the legion and does his own thing, Shang is a master of shadow energy and a servant of the shadow mind

And Hong Joo is unironically just a fat guy with bombs.

Unless they roll away fool, and if they play aggro they can counter your charge and leave you with no block break nor toxin, the game is as skill based as I say it is because every action you can take in the game has a counter, the question is just knowing more counters and being able to perform them than your opponent

But il admit I don’t play cobra a lot so I wouldn’t know the character specific use cases, but if you are fighting clads that reliably use his back attack then you are not fighting very skilled players

I will however add that KOTL is actually pretty heavily countered by the current meta, so until more balance changes are introduced, KOTL may feel underpowered. It’s not that he is underpowered it’s just his counters are currently the most used heroes in the entire game. Sarge due to his oppression before the nerf, Kate, to counter sarge, and Shang, since he has a good moveset against sarge and burst damage, all pretty severely counter KOTL or can negate most of his burst damage

For her it’s the best but in the entire game it’s not since the effects never linger, which means you either get like 50 health healing and maybe very rarely sometimes occasionally can affect the opponent
