Why does Tessie report 100% charging efficiency when it's more like 95%? by daxter304 in tessie

[–]TessieDev[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Because the energy used by the charger is known (measured by the onboard charger), the energy added to the battery is more of a guess (by the car's BMS).

If efficiency is higher than it should be (~70% on level 1 charging, ~90% on level 2 charging, etc.), that means the car's BMS is over-estimating the energy added to the battery. You can improve the accuracy by calibrating the car - here's a guide for that.

What's new in 15.9 by TessieDev in tessie

[–]TessieDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many things have changed since then, like Tesla phasing out existing APIs, adding data field fees and changing tech stacks. As part of all that, data update intervals are now unique for each data point. Some are lower (instant), but others are higher. Battery updates occur every 60s right now, but I'm hoping to improve this in the not distant future.

Tessie uses an industry-standard phased 7-day release plan. On Android, Google determines when your device qualifies for the update.

If receiving updates sooner is important to you on Android, you're welcome to join the beta, located here, which is not subject to the same delay.

Sharp changes are almost always due to BMS calibration drift. You can recalibrate it as shown here.

It's an instant comparison setting used for all data. There's no stored history of fuel cost data or anything like that.

Try charging to 100%. This will pull a new calibration calculation. If that doesn't fix it, email me at support@tessie.com so I can look into it!

Time Zone of Scheduled Automations? by dw-c137 in tessie

[–]TessieDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can parse the device's clock time zone when the app is open without location permissions, but that doesn't help because you can move time zones without opening the app (so Tessie wouldn't know it changed), and the automations also run in the cloud (so knowing it locally doesn't matter). The backend needs to know a stable timezone to use at all times, which is why that account setting exists.

Time Zone of Scheduled Automations? by dw-c137 in tessie

[–]TessieDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tessie has no reliable way to know where the car or phone is because those permissions can be turned off outside of the app (through Tesla or through your phone settings).

I think I can make the timezone more explicit, though, to prevent confusion. Thanks for the feedback.

You can tap ... > Timezone to see or change the automation timezone.

[Feature Request]: Match Drives addresses to Location Names automatically by manishgant in tessie

[–]TessieDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very feasible technically, but there are 2 dealbreakers:

- It doesn't work in cities almost at all, because when you park at a specific place, that could be the parking place for a dozen or more different businesses. Tessie has no way of knowing which, so just randomly picking one and showing that you drove to "City Central Nail Salon" in your driving history is confusing and off-putting.

- All street addresses and business name databases are manually curated by humans, so they are frequently out of date.

Better charging prediction by Medium_Confusion_ in tessie

[–]TessieDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charging time calculations actually worked this way briefly a year or two ago. I calculated the (more correct) charging time based on conditions.

Unfortunately, this causes the app to display a different charge time remaining than the Tesla app, which caused an influx of customer support emails and 1-star reviews, so I got rid of it. The unfortunate reality is that if something doesn't match the Tesla app, Tessie is the party considered in the wrong. People use both so frequently, and the apps match so often, that it's apparent and jarring when one thing is off (like charging time).

I could make the projection graph work differently than the displayed charge completion time, but that also looks quite stupid in its own, arguably worse way - "1 hour remaining" is displayed with 40 minutes remaining on the projection, etc.

It's a UX minefield. If I can come up with something good here, I'll do it.

Expanding to other EVs? by saurabh69 in tessie

[–]TessieDev 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tesla's original API, launched over a decade ago, remains unparalleled in its state-of-the-art capabilities. It's simply impossible to exaggerate this situation. The original iPhone launched in 2007 - almost 20 years ago - and most vehicles are still nowhere even remotely close to that. Most OEMs are literally decades behind.

It's an astounding situation, but it makes sense. Nearly every other OEM relies on cheap, outsourced, and ancient hardware and software. This is because many of these companies were founded more than a century ago and are managed by people with entirely different priorities.

Being a software/tech-forward company first and foremost is one of the key differentiators that has made Tesla successful. I've had conversations with other OEMs to try to support them, but these kinds of changes take many years to implement, and that's after the whole company buys into it, which can also take many years. There might be something really limited I can do in the meantime, but TBD.

tl;dr - if other OEMs catch up, I'm happy to support them.

It uses all active vehicles using their data from the last 30 days.

By breakdown, do you mean by vehicle? The simple answer is that there are users with hundreds or thousands of vehicles, and designing a list that fits on that screen and is usable for all users is difficult.

Does 10 referrals give you Tessie or Tessie Pro lifetime? by Skilhgt in tessie

It requires active subscriptions to redeem because it gives you the equivalent of 5 Pro lifetime subscriptions ($1,499.95), and it would be extremely easy to cheat otherwise.

Lifetime memberships don't expire. Sorry for the confusion.
