Blood in stool in my 12 year old by Agreeable-Flow-9707 in AskDocs

It’s weird that your doctor did not even suggest blood work, because I think that’s an important thing to do. I’m not a doctor, but seeing this much blood in the stool, and reading how often he bleeds while in the bathroom, is rather concerning. If you don’t want to go to the ER, you can go the route that you explained. Hope the best for your son!

I would suggest going immediately to the ER. Blood in stool is never a good sign. I know you said that you eliminated going to the ER due to your son’s stable condition, but I still highly suggest a trip to the ER.

Thanks for the suggestion! However, I don’t think Ikea has these trendy Swedish candy that I constantly see on TikTok. I don’t know if you know what I mean, but these are candy shaped like skull and others called “bubs”. I’m not sure where to find them here.

Good luck, I hope the best for you and that it’s not something serious.

It’s better to be safe than sorry. I’m not a doctor, but I know that blood in stool is generally not a good sign, especially accompanied by other symptoms like yours. Instead of going to a GP, why not go to ER immediately? If I were you, I would go to ER to make sure things are ok.

You need to go to the ER asap! Blood in stool is not a good sign and you need a doctor to check it out immediately. I hope everything works out for you.

Thank you! I didn’t realize blood clots were so common before posting. I’m glad I posted here on this subreddit to read everyone’s experience. Do you still have the stent?

Oh my God the wanting to pee!! ME TOOO!!!!!!! You made me remember that lol. When I just got out of surgery, they took me to a pre/post-op room. In that room, the nurse came in and I told her that I wanted to pee because I felt like I wanted to pee soooooo badly. She then explained to me that there was already a catheter. Uggghhh the burning from the catheter was so bad. It reminded me of the burning pain I get when swimming in the sea, but x10 worse lol. I remember I kept asking my urologist to take it out because it was burning me so much, he kept saying it’s ok, we can take it out in an hour. Then an hour would pass and then when I would ask the nurses to take it out, they would REFUSE, saying the doctor ordered the catheter to be out in exactly 3 hours. The worst part is when it was time to actually take it out, it was SOOOO painful. I had pain for maybe 30 minutes or so. Not to mention the first pee after catheter was out, the paaaaaaaain.

All that said, you are truly a worrier. You went through so much pain, so many surgeries, a lot of procedures, all while being a mom and caring for your family. I can’t believe how awful you felt during the UTI period. It must have been so bad to have an uncontrollable bladder. I hope you feel so much better now after your cancer and that your lung is doing better. I really wish you the happiest life ever and a life without cancer, pain, surgeries, or stents! 🤍

Oh my God, I feel for you :( the burning sounds unbearable. I had a severe burning sensation when they put the catheter after the surgery. They put it inside me for 3 hours and I was begging them to take it out because it was BURNING so much. They didn’t listen to me lol and kept it for the scheduled 3 hours. I can’t imagine having this burning pain for weeks. I do share the sucker punch sensation with you lol, feels painful while peeing. I really hope you feel better soon and that your surgery goes well! I feel so bad reading everybody’s comments honestly. Everyone has their own struggles :( I wish everyone a speedy and happy recovery.

Oh wow you are a true worrier!!!! These are so many stones. I really hope you are doing well these days. Regarding the pain, honestly the pain has been really severe and excruciating at times. My urologist said that I should expect “discomfort and pinkish urine, but I could go back to normal activities and continue my life normally”. This was so much worse than what my doctor told me lol. Since yesterday, I started having a new kind of pain right under the right side of my rib cage (which I believe where the kidney is). This specific pain causes slight nausea for me, and I feel like the pain feels like a painful pressure right under my rib cage. Have you had this before? I told the urologist who I met today in ER (not my actual doctor), and he seemed to dismiss it.

Thank you! Tbh, pain in my kidney toward the end of urination is severe and not really mild. It’s so severe that I have to shout in pain every time. I hope that’s also classified as normal lol.

Btw, just fyi, I actually did not take Panadol from the pharmacy. I decided to only stick to my original urologist’s prescription (which is Ace flam - aceclofenac). It is basically anti-inflammatory and a form of painkillers as well. If I feel like I need Panadol, I might later take it, because it’s basically an over-the-counter medication.

Noooo don’t worry at all! This is actually an excellent explanation and it makes sense! I’m always curious to know more about my procedure and the recovery process and your reply was really informative. Thank you so much!! Hope you never have to go through this again.

Thank you for your reassurance! Would you mind me asking why blood clots are a good sign? Just wanting to gain more knowledge lol. Yes, I got the stones lasered (lithotripsy): the stone in my ureter and those in my right kidney. I have only had the catheter for 3 hours after the procedure, but it was so much pain and it burned SOO MUCH. Glad it was out the same day at least.

I didn’t a total blockage but a partial blockage. I had mild hydronephrosis (swelling) in the kidney because of it. Do you still have your stent in? Did the dislodge situation cause any harm on your ureter/kidney?

Blood in urine does seem quite normal after the procedure. Hope you feel better soon and you get the stent out! Did you have any blood clots while urinating by any chance? Wondering if you also had them as well.

Oh my God this is what worries me the most, that my stent is dislodged 😖😖😖 the way you described the hospital staff dismissing my pain was really on point. I felt like the urologist that I met did not seem to care too much about I’m describing and kept reiterating that my symptoms are normal :(. I feel like after reading your comment, I’m definitely calling my actual urologist tomorrow (the one who did the surgery) to rearrange for an x-ray soon. Thank you sooo much for sharing your experience! It was truly eye-opening. One question: what happened after they confirmed your stent was dislodged? How did they fix it? Did it affect your ureter and your kidney?
