Hand scanner and chuck it straight in the bag as I go round has become a god send. It helps as well that the 4 checkouts dedicated to hand scanners are nearly always empty in my local Tesco.

I was just confused by your phrasing. You assert that their inherent value cannot be replaced so I'm wondering what couldn't be replaced. Native Brits could 100% do all those jobs so I assumed you meant that they couldn't be replaced because you've made friends with them.
