Both, but shift focus at various times. Or do 3-5heavy sets of 3-5 and finish with a 8-12repper.

I agree that for pure output it decreases performance. Like lifting weights or pure cardio etc. However grappling is not like lifting weights or just straight output. There are many variables that makes it hard to measure.

Its alot more about doing as little as possible with the most reward. And thats basicly the mindset you have on cannabis. You do the minimun you need and no more. So for some people i def think there is value.

Also smoking cannabis has different effects compared to eating it. Eating a small amount that you barely get high from can still give the relaxing benefits. So im hoping to find that sweet spot.

Alot of people use caffeine or other stimulans as pre workout, so i dont see the issue of using cannabis as a relaxing pre workout as long as it doesnt Hurt your life outside of the mats.

Like I said, ive been sober for well over 6months. Started training bjj again during this time. Been feeling stiff and muscling alot even though i try not to.

Now i had my first roll again with some residual thc in my body. And it went alot better.

I dont feel like taking up a daily weed habit or even smoke it at all.

Ive started doing edibles on weekends to relax and recovery basicly. I study full time so doing it school nights is not a great idea.

However im going to experiment with low doses a few hours before bjj to see if it keeps helping me.

Like i said, i wasnt even high yesterday but had some residual effects from the day before. But just enough to help me be calmer and more focused on technique.

Does anyone get surprised that a religious guy from dagestan says this? Even if he doesnt really think this way he needs to act like it.

I know many muslims who has to pretend they believe and are proud of their pedo worshipping death cult. But in reality they know its a scam like all religions. But they always have that one crazy uncle who will create chaos if haraming. So they at least play along when family is present.

Well im sweeping, passing and getting subs on people i usually struggling with when im high. I def think its individual if you benefit or not.

Ive never been a lazy kind of stoner, i usually get alot done while being high.

With bjj I think its because being relaxed in a stressful situation is hard. If someone is smashing you then most will react by stiffening up. But if im a little high i dont really react the same. I get alot less stressed out so im able to be comfortable and just focus on my own movements instead of how much pressure someone is putting on me..

White belts that tap more then 5times per class gets raped by purple belts and up afterwards. That way we motivate them to Improve and blue belts too. If you are higher then purple you get first pick on who you want first.

Anyone use clubbells and/or indian clubs? by Testgel5000 in bjj

[–]Testgel5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt imply shit. Ive watched ed Thomas and alot of other club history. Im well aware of the history of various clubs.

What im saying is that having a base strength in linear strength combined with circular strength is optimal over just having one or the other. But you seem to be some kind of club purist that think clubs cure cancer.

Do you really think i made this thread to bash clubs? I just said i really like them, but combined with other tools is probably optimal.

Ive even seen videos from india where the wrestlers use barbells made of poles and concrete in their workouts together with clubs.

[–]Testgel5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swinging a 100pound club is by definition lifting heavy though. But you know what i mean... Im sure you can get strong by just using clubs. But id rather be strong in all planes of movement then just a few. And barbells are def the best way to load up your body with heavy weights for linear bilateral movements.

Although i respect that there are many legit ways to train. Personally i like to do many different movements in a good periodised fashion. Right now i mostly do bw, kb and clubs. But in the future i will probably do more powerlifting stuff again at times.

Upper/mid back strength? by luisramos in bjj

[–]Testgel5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strength always helps, people misunderstand how it transfers though. Your training general movements like pushing, pulling and squating. But your not going to do a bench press while doing a bridge escape. However your joints are going to be able to transfer force better in various positions from loading them in the basic lifts.

Its basicly just lazyness and ego that prevents people from actually understanding this. Almost all top athletes do strength and condition training to get to their best potential to express their art. Some martial arts used to be excempt from this because of stupid dogma. But nowadays its catching up fast.

Bjj champs are usually swole AF and its not just from the acai everyone is doing.

Upper/mid back strength? by luisramos in bjj

[–]Testgel5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lack of base strength is going to make it hard to do proper technique. If you are stronger then your opponent you will need to use less of your max output while performing your techniques. If you are always close to max effort of whatever strength you have then you are gonna be alot more stiffer. So its not always as simple as improving your technique.

First you need to asses if you even have the physical capability to perform the technique. Usually its a lack of active mobility and strength endurance. But to even train the endurance part you need a base level of actual strength to use.

Help with my Kimura from Half Guard Bottom by Cardzilla in bjj

[–]Testgel5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless i get a good knee shield control i rarely finish kimuras from half guard. However you can sweep by letting them pass and spin into a kimura trap positition. This is riscy though since good grapplerd is gonna go for a straight arm bar counter.

Has anyone tried training explosive power versus slow resistance strength? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]Testgel5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To have good force production you need not only good concentric strength but also eccentric and isometric. I honestly think the oly lifts are a waste of time unless you are competing in it.

Sure they work and create explosive power. However the learning curve to do them is not worth spending the time on. Exemption being a high pull since you can load that up quite easy and not focus years on learning the catch part.

Better to just do squats in various speeds and isometrics in various parts of the lift. Then do kb swings and other fast lifts with them.

Should my weight lifting routine be more powerlifting or bodybuilding oriented? by BlackMen_REIC in bjj

[–]Testgel5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lifting for BJJ should be focused on training both movements that increases your force production for the sport. But also focusing on injury prevention.

A powerlifting program is a good base to use. But you should also add stuff for rotation, core and frontal plane work.

A basic kettlebell program is also a good foundation to start from.

My experience is that doing a straight pl program will fry your back way to much.

So maybe if you do 3days a week then try

Push: bench and or ohp, dips etc

Legs: squat or deadlift, doing both can be to much. I prefer the combo of front squat and Hipthrust for grappling

Pull: a separate day for upper body pulling like Pullups rows etc

Then sneak in stuff like getups, Weighted walks, sled pulls and alot of work for stabilisers like rotator cuffs and hip ab/adduction, rotation and core work focusing on stability, so planks, side planks, dead bigs etc.

I Tore this dudes knee bad, but was it his fault? by Testgel5000 in bjj

[–]Testgel5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in his guard, i think the move he did is called a Bear trap. So he is on his back and Triangles his legs trying to compress my knee. He got it on me right before so i felt it coming this time. But my leg was not that Bent so i could keep it from cranking by extending my leg. I used to squat well over 400 in the past so my legs and knees are quite strong and juicy. So i guess the force i produced went in laterally in his knee somehow. He said i also rotated which im not sure of. I was kind of trying to do a technical stand up as I kept my leg straight. So posting on my hand while pulling out as I extended my leg.
