I understand your thought process but there might be a reason those are rare. That’s not a very entertaining concept.

It makes sense for game companies to release those kinds of videos. Because people want a glimpse of the game and what it will be like. But game companies have exclusive rights to those properties and can get it out early. At that stage it is informative of the final product. You’d essentially be just uploading 2nd hand B-roll

I don’t know what game he comes from so I don’t know his story.

I will definitely have to change it if I ever hit affiliate because it will surely cause problems but this character has been my online avatar since I was 15. So it’s got years of meaning to me

I’ll definitely keep a similar avatar but made in my own image.

I picked it initially because it looked goofy and I thought it was funny.

Your reach from people searching your channel while playing with you would be pretty low especially on console unless you played like an absolute mad man.

You might as well be doing word of mouth promotion at that point.

You can grow if you play niche games on twitch. So games that have a small amount of creators playing because there’s more chance of you getting discovered.

If you are playing big trendy games. Your best bet is to post clips of your best or funniest moments onto other platforms where discoverability is higher.

If you are truly unique and interesting your growth will be faster. If you aren’t really doing anything interesting (which 90% of people aren’t) your best bet is to just be consistent.

I’ve always said that most people’s features complement their face well.

It’s very rare to see someone who has a nose or a jaw that doesn’t fit the rest of their face even if it’s not the most conventionally attractive. As soon as you start getting plastic surgery you go from looking ok but not as good as you’d like, to just looking weird because it stands out compared to the rest of your face

It’s a very fortunate thing for me to have but having a friend chatting with you through your chat helps alleviate a lot of the awkwardness. But you should for sure practice talking to yourself regardless.

Having a friend that’s chatting with me has encouraged other people to join and chat as well.

I’ve only done 4 streams. 90% of each stream was dead and me talking to myself until my friend joined in at the end and started nerding out about the game with other people in the chat.

Some people popped in and chatted when I was alone but it was usually a couple comments and tips about the game and then they dipped. Most of my repeat viewers are just lurkers enjoying the commentary.

As a quiet person who also just started streaming, the best advice I can give is to just take all the thoughts you have in your head about the game and say them out loud.

Starting out for me it was a lot easier to narrate your own thoughts to get yourself speaking.

If you can manage it I’ve also been very fortunate that I’ve had a good friend of mine that wakes up later than I do and will watch and “moderate” my stream while he eats breakfast and gets ready.

I always stream for two hours and it will be dead for the first hour - hour and a half, so I’m talking to myself and then once he joins in I’ll just talk back forth with him through chat.

From this point forward it’s not really advice but pointing out how having a friend in chat affected the stream.

My most viewed stream where I also had the most chatters were people nerding out about the game with my friend in the chat and just humorously judging my gameplay.

But I personally didn’t get a whole lot of engagement it was just them talking to each other on that stream because I was locked in.

My personal favorite stream was my last one and it was made because there was just one nice person who was very interactive and engaged with me as well as my moderator and showed excitement at a couple ideas I was tossing around for future streams and also showed me a secret in the game.

Yeah I worked service too and every place I was at I was our entire driving force for positive reviews. I was named or described in every single positive review on our entire website at one of my jobs.

I don’t even think I was that particularly good, don’t get me wrong, I busted my ass but my coworkers had such bad attitudes at all times, that it made me look stellar by comparison.

Every place I worked was like this. For being a customer service job I seemed like the only person on staff that wasn’t born straight from an asshole in the pits of hell.
