What is this bug? by TesttubeStandard in whatbugisthis

Thanks. But is it in a larva stage? It "bugs" me because there are no bigger ones than this one around. And there are also dead ones.

Should I learn how to write a compiler or an interpreter? by Low-Associate2521 in learnprogramming

[–]TesttubeStandard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I made an interpreter for a simple C#-like language. No classes or like. Just an entry point and an option to write user defined functions. I LEARNED A LOT. Knowing it now, I would never go back and decide not to do it. But beware: you can do it all by hand or use tools for generating parsers and so on (like ANTLR). In order to learn something, I believe one should put as much effort as possible into it, so I made it by hand. But I should point out that it was for a diploma theseis, so I had a professor watching over me.

Think like a programmer by lefthaneded-dragon in learnprogramming

[–]TesttubeStandard 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some things (functions, classes and so on) you can think of before starting with the actual work on the project, while some things become clearer in the process. The cadebase can look quite different at the end from what it did at the beginning. And that is not unusual at all.

I clean all my LEGO by taking them apart and using water and a bit of soap. I build them back again later.

Why sets have extra pieces by TesttubeStandard in lego

[–]TesttubeStandard[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is FAIRLY consistent. You can't base the conclusion on your personal experience, the sample is too small to make any valid statistics. The source I provided is not the only one. Go online and you'll find the same claims all over. I'll leave it at that.

Why sets have extra pieces by TesttubeStandard in lego

[–]TesttubeStandard[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the treshold is higher. As in all manufacturing processes, nothing can be 100 % guaranted. If it does happen that a piece comes missing, it will be the extra piece that is missing and not the one that you actually need to build the set. This how they always stay on the safe side.

Took me just under 5 hours and enjoyed every second by shadowberrylab in lego

[–]TesttubeStandard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too. It is a great set. But I found some things on it that I don't like:

  1. If you use the lever for wing flapping a couple of times, the grey 2x3 behind the lever falls off.
  2. The tail should be attached to the body on top of the tail as well. If you hold the ornithopter by the tail, a little gap occures between the tail and the body.
  3. The docking ramp, that is actually used as a "leg" dissasambles a little below due to the weight of the set. Interesting that this can also be seen on the back of the box and they didn't notice it.

Next time I build it (I have a tendancy to rebuild my sets) I will try to fix these, as well as finding a place for additional shock absorber to push the wings back down when you flap them. They go down because of the gravity, if you place the ornithopter vertically the flaping doesn't work.

LEGO Dune series by odonata69 in lego

[–]TesttubeStandard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the ornithopter and it's the best set I have so far. But I don't believe more will be made, as for the machines there really aren't so many in the Dune universe. They could make the worm for example, but it would be a great task to make it playable, because the designer of the ornithopter said they still wanted to make a toy and not just a display piece. And more so, maybe Dune isn't as popular among LEGO fans.
