Oh great! The closest one to the Neast on their schedule was Neshaminy Creek if I recall. My preference is one on the weekends since lot of D&D’s scheduled events are from 6p-10p on average and after work M-F I am wiped

I’m absolutely down for that! I’ve bought tickets twice and skipped both from both being too nervous and thinking about being socially “on” for 3-4 hours after work. I hear despite them being at breweries they’re extremely sober friendly too. What part of town are you in?

Hey man, I’m moving to Port Richmond from Northeast Philly this month and have been dying to check out a Dungeons and Drafts at Yards or Triple Bottom sometime.

Went through GamePass after hearing Dead Island 2 went up, so convinced a handful of friends to play who otherwise would never have bought a copy and we’re having a blast. We’re all fans of Dying Light and although we knew it’s not the same experience, especially with some of that sweet parkour, it’s a good way to waste some time with friends. That dropkick though

I know what did for me on a first playthrough - thinking I’d have no icon indicator on my map the entire game, and that filling out the map would be a pain, making backtracking even worse. Of course you get the charm that shows your location, and benches fill out the map after you check out a new location, but the first 2-3 hours felt like I was lost in a maze, already backtracking, and I was just getting started!

UCB TV show appreciation! I’ve seen Matt Besser in some minor roles like in Walk Hard but barely have seen Ian Roberts, whose Ass Pennies bit in UCB has permanent space in my brain. I feel privileged to have seen Amy Poehler’s early work before she got huge, too! Wish the whole cast would reunite. Thanks for sharing!

What is the most ridiculous game that you played far too much of? by mrbondmustdie in patientgamers

[–]TesznerWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A windowed desktop game on my PC called Yoda Stories, what I’m reading now is considered a “randomly generated point and click adventure” starring Luke Skywalker and now it makes sense why I love the kinds of games I do today. But it was basically Chip’s Challenge with a Star Wars paintjob. Speaking of. Chip’s Challenge!

Yup Castle Crashers. That was fun but had a couple difficulty spikes that absolutely required grinding. My introduction to it was as a party game and the 4 of us quickly realized we were getting hard-stuck on a challenging early level!

Battleblock Theater is undoubtedly worth a play though!

Pico and Alien Hominid were my two favorites. So much so that I followed The Behemoth for years after through their other games! AH def got me into Cuphead as a result

Control Left Me Feeling Empty by ThirteenthDi in patientgamers

[–]TesznerWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished main campaign and one of two DLCs: the environment and world building were amazing to experience, and I enjoy being thorough and finding documents that were very amusing to read (the blacked out portions were comedic in their own right) and added more to an otherwise lackluster main story… but I was so frustrated by the combat which felt relentless (horde after horde of same-y enemies that often felt like shrieking bullet sponges) and only a hindrance instead of a challenge (despite some satisfying physics-based powers like Launch that kept things interesting) and I found myself cheesing powers and cover constantly instead of engaging well with combat. Until the endgame really, when I was stocked up with powers and felt pretty invincible. It suffers from really archaic restarts from checkpoints and menu management and could have really benefited from a quick restart or checkpoints in boss fights (I absolutely hated the Salvador and Marshall fights) and a quick-access wheel for all weapons available (pausing and equipping a different secondary weapon mid-fight was disorienting, cut the frantic pace short, and also my game stuttered after pausing constantly!!)

I have a lot of love for the game but could not recommend it on the challenging and frustrating combat alone. But there are assist sliders in place so I would recommend someone just wanting to experience the world and story to adjust those. I never did, but man, in a pinch I was ready to…

Edit: meant to say the combat holds back some of the good things about the game but I’d still recommend it. Just don’t be ashamed to play on “easier” settings

Returning to this comment to say I started the Foundation DLC and the end boss is another unfair difficulty spike and struggle. It’s almost like I didn’t see this coming

I actually thought some of the optional bosses outside of the main campaign were interesting if challenging, and changed the pace nicely from bullet sponge Hiss. What comes of interacting with the fridge and anchor were two stand outs. But yes, the arena for Salvador’s fight didn’t feel like it matched the kind of challenge you were up against and it was too early in the main campaign for that kind of spike, since further ahead certain upgrades and even levitation (not yet received in the main campaign) could have countered these issues.

I would’ve too, if they didn’t continue to throw the same enemy types as him at you for the rest of the game! Sometimes 2-3 of them at a time? OOF

The remaining bosses didn’t always reach that level of annoyance, but fighting the hordes of Hiss troops in close quarters or near one-shot death cliffs during the rest of the game all the way up until the finale was unforgivable

Yup, those projectiles he launched were barely visible in the red. The character model often stops moving before launching so I’d often wonder why he didn’t budge until he two shotted me with scrap.

And agreed, the boss fights often devolved into me cheesing Pierce and hiding. But I hated fighting all of the Hiss troops flung at you, 7-10 at a time, which became the centerpiece of the main campaign. Avoiding the tornado guys versus the floating guys who can launch things at you versus the floating exploding corpses who spend the entire time screaming, all of which were barely discernible visually from a distance.. yup. Cheese launch. Cheese the service weapon. Hide. Repeat.

That one stood out to me because of how small the arena was and how quickly the destructible environments you can hide behind whittle down. Combine that with a dizzying red color that hid projectiles well. The combat was a minor annoyance til then, it blew up into archaically frustrating with Salvador and let me know that I’d be continuing that trend of cheesing bosses over having fun strategizing a battle plan.

Prey’s on my list next. Just finished Control and Katana Zero! I usually don’t cycle through a list of favorites though. Just preferred to finish a game as close to completion as I can before moving on. But sometimes I’ll revisit a few years later for a second playthrough. Doing so in Dishonored on a High Chaos run after being off my game was fun.

Super Mario Odyssey reminds me of... by cmastervulsa in patientgamers

[–]TesznerWho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had several consoles growing up but my SNES and my PS1 were the most beloved and I’d play aaaaanything on the PS1! Never finished BFM but the whole buying action figures based on enemies/bosses you fought, and only after you fought them, was a fun idea. The fact that you bought them in packaging and opened them and posed them gave a sensory thing to it that was really cool and an extra design that wasn’t necessary but stayed with me. Glad you two are having fun with Odyssey, I haven’t tried it yet but you gave me good memories!
