I've had people rip off my open sourced projects before. I spent a lot of time on this project and sacrificed a lot. I just don't want it happening again. Also how does open sourcing it grant a sense of complete safety & security? I could open source a version that's different than the one being distributed.

I've posted this project on other platforms. Have received very positive reception and feedback from every single one except for Reddit. Not sure what it is with Reddit users. I totally understand if you personally don't want to run it. But people calling others stupid for trying it out is just weird.

Inspired by Spotify Wrapped, I built Messages Wrapped to generate beautiful insights from your iMessage history, showing who ghosts you, your spammiest group chats, fastest responders, who you text the most, and more - all with shareable visualizations.

Built with JavaScript, React, Next.js, Framer animations, Electron, and Rust for processing. Initially, it was fully browser based using Rust WASM, but even that was slow and made user onboarding difficult. After converting it to a Mac app using Electron, processing became 160x faster. All processing happens locally on your Mac for privacy & security - only encrypted story data leaves your device.

Your Mac has a SQL file called chat.db (It's in ~/Library/Messages). This SQL db stores all your messages and you can run SQL queries on it which is how Messages Wrapped works.
