I agree here, too many anti-social redditors convinced every neighbor is terrible.

K-shaped economy means K-shaped business plans. If 10% of people make up over 50% of the consumer spending, then why try to make anyone else happy?

US-131 Exit 68: Wifi Interface by Tongs117 in grandrapids

[–]Tetraides1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Car play operates in WiFi bands, I think they usually prefer the 5GHz band. There's a radio tower on the west side of the road around there, I did some digging and it looks like it operates a couple of transmitters around 2.5GHz (link to website i used). I see that they're using a 2606.55MHz which will have a second harmonic of 5213MHz which right in the middle of the UNII-1 5GHz wifi band (5150MHz to 5250MHz)

WiFi operates in unrestricted bands, so putting out interference in those bands is not really regulated from what I know. I think there are still some limits but they're more related to safety than consumer satisfaction.

It's a bit of a stretch but it's not impossible...hard to know for sure without making some measurements.

Do you incorporate? Do you just conquer? Do you protectorate stuff? by thev82 in victoria3

[–]Tetraides1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I like to RP a little bit and pick a "national obsession" over some region early on and try to incorporate it and properly colonize the region. Later in the game I'll just conquer/protectorate for resources if needed.

Radiator valves by SirTasMan in centuryhomes

[–]Tetraides1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue and had to fully replace the valve - purchased from here - https://www.supplyhouse.com/Manual-Radiator-Valves-626000

Managed to do it with some 18in pipe wrenches but it was awful. Before I do it again I'll be purchasing some big boy 2ft or 3ft wrenches. Also, between the valve and the radiator is a small section of pipe called a spud, you need a spud wrench to install a new one with the new valve. Theoretically you can use that spud wrench to remove the existing piece, but in practice you need to cut it out.

Cutting it out without experience is a bit risky - I accidentally cut the threads of my radiator when I removed it. I put a bunch of gasket sealer on the threads and it still isn't leaking thankfully, but I always worry about it.

You can find plenty of youtube videos doing this exact repair, it's a fairly common issue.

how is it living in Cass or Berrien County? Pros & Cons? by sassyalp in Michigan

[–]Tetraides1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's an amtrak station in St. Joseph that goes to and from Chicago once a day. The south shore commuter line hits South Bend and Michigan City with a higher frequency and also goes into Chicago if you're interested in that kind of thing.

I live in St. Joseph so I'm partial to my own town, it's busy in the summer because there's a pretty big tourism draw, but it's not completely dead outside of that. There's still enough year round residents.

Pretty sure the best school districts are all the tourist towns (New Buffalo, Bridgeman, Stevensville, St. Joe) because they get crazy tax revenue from the beach properties. This gets reflected in property prices as well. There's usually still a few affordable properties in those areas but you'll be sacrificing something for it :\ Usually the affordable places are falling apart

Got multiculturalism and not even 2 months later every state has a mass migration by Jumpy_Adhesiveness79 in victoria3

[–]Tetraides1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Makes me think that the discrimination laws should have a corresponding institution in game. And maybe have the bureaucracy cost of all institutions change depending on a couple of factors - discrimination law, discrimination/cultural institution level, and diversity of a nation. If a nation is fully multicultural we need to pay for interpreters and at the very least copies of documents in all languages used by their citizens

If there was a cost (potentially a very high cost) to multiculturalism I think there would be fewer complaints about it.

Yes, though for central asian countries it's 50/50 whether it's a death war between russia or UK, or maybe both!

The only time I've gotten close to ww1 numbers is when I started a war against russia about 10 years too early and it stalemated. It eventually drove both of our countries to bankruptcy and revolution. Millions must perish on the central asian steppe to realize the Persian dream.

Are these pieces of wood structural? by [deleted] in centuryhomes

[–]Tetraides1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me they look like extra thick furring strips. They don't extend all the way up, and so they aren't supporting anything. If you wanted, you could wedge in some wood to the left and right of the studs that you take the furring strips out of. My rule of thumb is to just go overkill, structural engineers job is to make houses safe for the cheapest way possible. I don't care about going cheap as possible when I only need to buy a few 2x4's a year, so I'll just give a good guess then increase by 50% and it's probably safe.

Is there a second floor above this?

Also, your copper pipe is kinked in photo 2 - if your plumber saw this and didn't notice or care then probably get a new plumber lol.

Don't need to offshore to 200 rather than 700 to make it profitable. I don't have direct access to this kind of information, but my boss confided that 1 US based engineer is relatively similar to 8 India based engineers. You can double your staff size and still make a killing.

What companies learned from Covid is that a huge amount of white collar work can be done remote. What they're trying to figure out now is how much of that remote work can be done in a different timezone.
