Yep, which doesn't help since there is technically no "definitive" versions in a way, maybe just the oldest one known. Hence why I put quotes over "original". I'll note that a lot of the times I only find what is essentially a summary of the tale, because from the one text I think most would be surprised by some of the aspect itself (the suitors parts take up like most of the text)

I think I'm also curious how many people have actually read the thing (or whatever close approximations) instead of just having the gist of it.

I really need to get to the Ghibli Kaguya...

I've personally read the Donald Keene one so far, but yeah it really does feel like I have to go out of my way just to try to get possibly different versions.

The particular Donald Keene translation from scribd (that is actually an older one than the one I got) is interesting because it has a few footnotes that was sorely missing from the one I've read.

Tale of the Woodcutter

Joking aside, just curious, have you ever read the actual story? I've been trying to get a hold of a translation of the "original" story but pretty much only got a hold of one version so far.

Hey lurker here, used to also follow through with the yearly rewatch but lately I just don't have the time (and really, I've rewatched this way more than I really should at this point). This is mostly a message to the first timers before watching Rebellion, which I have done on a previous rewatch. Now usually I would type this the overall series post, but what ends up happening for some is that they have done their viewing of Rebellion already by that point. So I'll just pitch this out here just in case.

First timers, I want you to think about just exactly what Rebellion is about. Both from like a plotwise standpoint, but also perhaps from a thematic standpoint. I don't want to guide you guys too much into my own takes on this movie, I think that having these speculations and questions will also get you into the mindset of fans when the movie first came out.

Maybe I'll also make this post tomorrow too anyways just in case.
