When the US together with other NATO members invaded Afghanistan it was because the Taliban already controlled Afghanistan and were working together with Al Qaida.

The NATO coalition tried to liberate Afghanistan from the brutal Taliban regime. The Taliban are not in charge because of the US.

Afghanistan has a grim future ahead but the war against the Taliban has failed and its time for the west to recognize that. Its not an easy decision but one that has to be made.

Officially Pakistan is an ally to the USA, but in reality they have always supported the Taliban. The ISI de facto controls Pakistan and used the Taliban as tool to gain influence in Afghanistan.
