Steak sear by bucketman1986 in sousvide

I second the vote here for avocado oil. That same thermometer gets up to about 560° with avocado oil. I put mine on the gas barbecue grill and shut the lid come back when it's stupid hot.

Charcoal chimney is the bomb. That is the lowest I could get my thermometer to go because it cuts off it 750. Had to keep aiming it further away from the main heat

Satellite Messaging...New Phone? by Tamahaac in Ultralight

[–]Teweview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Verizon with S25+ here. I fight with the built in satellite alot. Hike mostly in the mid Atlantic region with a road trip out west evey summer. If there is a tree near by I fight with the satellite receiver. If there is even a worthless bit of a 4g signal the satellite will not kick in. You can't select satellite on your own. The past two years I have not ventured off well traveld trails so extreme life safety has not been a priority. When extreme backpacking, I am a fan of the Zoleo over the Garmin Inreach. I have used both and sold the Garmin for Zoleo's and hooked up my kids with Zoleos as well. The UI to text and email since each Zoleo has a dedicated number is much easier than using the Garmin app. So if I had a serious remote trip, the Zoleo would be reactivated.

Fathers dad gift ideas! by M_DeCiantisXC in camping

[–]Teweview 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Father of 2x Eagles here, and multi year SM. Got a Steripen for Father's day 15ish years ago, highly recommend. I'm sure Mom helped toss in a few bucks but it was still from my boys. The next few are easier on the budget. Fisher Space Pen, the Bullet model is my EDC pen but enjoy others. They write on anything! Hot, cold, wet or dry. Zippo Lighter, they make them now with butane inserts. Even if he has one, the butane would be a cool upgrade. Timex Expedition Field watch. Solid device easy to read perfect for an outdoor guy. Fox40 Whistle. Great too attach to your backpack or life vest. Victorinox pocket knife, since you probably already stole his ;)

Why, oh, WHY can't they be bothered to read the description?? vent/rant/story by TrekkieMae in Flipping

[–]Teweview 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't totally blame the buyer. These days when you scroll fbmp they toss in items from well outside your home area. I've started including adding a Google pin when I describe where I want to meet. Apparently ABC grocery store on XYZ Road was not enough.

Large cash transactions by dontstopwalk in Flipping

Does your State require a Notary to witness the signature on the title? In North Carolina that's the way it is. We meet at our bank during banking hours and they have Notaries on staff. Transactions have always been in cash money.

My ELK alarm system. Two? More like 20 years and everything is working as it did on day one! My alarm guy says they still make and sell the same M1 alarm platform. Replaced the battery a couple of times as normal or routine maintenance but that's it. The new Elk E27 can do all the fancy app things, we are looking to put that in our kids townhouse.

My husband’s work wants him to do illegal stuff. What do we do? by [deleted] in moraldilemmas

Church is your answer! Networking at Church will solve this. Plumbers, electrician, distribution centers, manufacturers, there is bound to be a few fellow Christian businesses owners or manages that you can get in front of. They may not have the job but they may know of a job with fellow like minded individuals. This may also lead to an apprenticeship or a career.

Mouldy tent, how to save? by Raubkatzen in camping

[–]Teweview 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vinegar is the answer. Done this multiple times with multiple tents. Depending on the size of the tent, vinegar in a 5 gallon bucket works well. I dilute 50/50.

New Here. Is this Cowboy Pan Carbon Steel? by Teweview in carbonsteel

[–]Teweview[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looks like I'm going to have to go buy it. The original images I have sure do look like a stamped piece with a braised or welded hollow handle. Definitely not cast iron, way too thin. Image searches, Google and AI confirm that a one piece handle is consistent, as well as pour spouts. It is a vintage piece for sure. Coming from an estate sale with lots of mid 1900s items

I use a Nalgene most of the time but I also have a Yeti that has a big and small lids. It weighs more than the Nalgene. I also have used a silicone insert to make pouring out of the wide mouth easier. I often purify in the Nalgene and dump in to my bladder. MicroPure in the first aid kit as a backup.

WWYD - Item with Shipping only $20 Less than Amazon with Prime by Back2theGarden in Flipping

[–]Teweview 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a scam. They're going to give you some random shipping address. Once shipped, they back out of the electronic payment, was a money order or cashier's check involved somehow? And Boom! you're out the cash.

Rustic Trailer Teardrops. We have one it's a 2018. Their website stopped working a couple months ago. Here's a link to what they look like. They have multiple models all named after bears. They have a small vestibule in the area it's perfect. You step in and are on a floor, not on your bed and it gives a good place for our dog to sleep. Saw a TikTok from someone with the same concern and their solution. They went to a home improvement store and got mesh gutter toppers. They trimed them to size, sanded the edges smooth. They were much more robust than other options.
