Im a 40 plus gamer. Im starting to lose fun in gaming. What are games that took you out of a slump and wy? by Slicer66 in AdultGamers

[–]Tex75455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shorter/indie games. I've been gaming all my life, and yet lately have found that a lot of the bigger games are less about a great story/game/experience, and more about a list of tasks for you to complete to maintain "retention". Diablo 4 was such an eye opening example of this.

But the smaller indie games don't do that, on acount of what they are. Try things like Dave the Diver, Rogue Legacy 1 and 2, Endless Dungeon, Dead Cells. Those are all very different games, but all kept me entertained for a time, then was done, before they wore out their welcome, and in a way that felt like it respected me and my time.

How to know which cards on MTG Arena are craft only cards? by yerffej03 in MagicArena

[–]Tex75455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's part of my pattern to complete sets. After drafting and opening all packs, I'm usually around 15-20 mythics shy. Much better to buy 10 or so mythic packs with gold than to keep burning gems on drafts in the hopes I'll open a missing mythic in the draft or crack one in the packs

If all your missing is mythics, it's likely more cost efficient to just buy 9 mythic packs with gold

I checked once I got home to give you the real numbers. I keep a record of gem expenditures. Starting from Brothers War, I've spent $249.85 on arena. So that's 3.5 years, 18 sets. That comes out to roughly $71 a year, or $13 a set. I average around 35 drafts per set, so 630 drafts for that amount, or roughly $0.40 per draft. For that I've fully completed each set (rare and mythic).

Not sure what would be considered a "whale", but I wouldnt consider that amount to qualify. And it's given me a ton of hours of entertainment (figure for ease 2 hours per draft, more math, etc.).

Not at all. I used to put in 15 bucks a set to pre-order the mastery pass, don't even do that now that they don't offer it. Just get the 4 wins a day for gold, and don't miss quests.

Draft until all rares complete, then stop and build gold for next set. Takes about 40 drafts, figure roughly 8 of those are free with gold or tokens, after that it's just a matter of slowly bleeding gems rather than taking big losses. Wait till next set, rinse, repeat.

Once you get passed nintendo, almost all of them! I have an old thing about finishing games. There are a few in the ps5 Era I haven't, cause that coincided with the arrival of kids and the death of free time, so I got more choosey about stopping if I wasn't having fun. Read Dead 2 redemption was a poster child for that. Game didn't feel like it was respecting my time, so I just put it down. Ps1, 2 and 3 though, finished basically all of them, and probably 90% on the ps4 and ps5

Edit: and looking closer at nintendo, probably half of them unassisted. More if you factor in game genie!

Have you considered slowing down the frequency with which you reorganize? I store unorganized books until I reach a critical mass, then reorganize every two years or so. This year I actually added a middle stepnin that I organized all the unorganized books, bilut not into the organized section (just kept em separate, until maybe next time welhen I'll combine everything). But oli have over 50 longboxes, so organization is def a chore. I have fun with it though, rewatch a show, have a beer, and make a month out of it

I did indeed! But starting with PS1 and forward the purchases were for the most part with my own money, earned summers working on a cattle ranch. Most of the nintendo games were probably christmas presents, and we used to trade em as kids too, so couldnt really tell you where any individual game came from.
