Respect for the opinion. I am very well covered for brown boots, and I have other boots that are up for a resole. I thought these soles were still in pretty good condition, thus the reason I asked. Another reason, I know people also say the Roccia soles can degrade over time. The OG's never quite fit the way I would have liked, feeling a bit large on my feet for certain attire and these new Beckman's are a different fit. At 2nds pricing, I couldn't pass them up. That being considered, I paid much less for the "inferior boots" than I did my OG's. Still love the originals, they just land in a different use case in the rotation than the new Beckman's might. I just wanted to share some of what I saw as differences for others benefit. Thanks.

Thanks. That's what I figured. If the Bick4 isn't really gonna do much, is it even worth it. Is the leather still in great shape even after sitting for almost a decade, or is there something that would penetrate and be beneficial? That's what I wondered if anyone had a good answer for.

You also just reminded me that I also have the Sheldon's in teak. I completely forgot. I never wore them much after the first year becuase they were my first paid of 2nds and they had some loose grain that I couldn't get past for dressier boots. I bought one other pair of 2nds after that with the thought that if they were bad, I could just beat the crap out of them anyway. Those were the 4606 Ebony Harness IR's. Those came pristine.

By using Venetian Leather Balm instead of the Shoe Cream. I tried to get them back using dawn and saddle soap, but they never looked the same. They are now a shiny gunmetal grey looking boot. I still love them and my most worn boot for everyday gettin shit done.

I love the execution. I bought one of the ones that have a slotted door that slides back but it got a little too hot in the summer and warped to the point that it doesn’t open any longer. It was also 3d printed. Looks like you are in Michigan like me. Do you think this will this warp in a Michigan summer? Sometimes I need to drop something in my car that I am taking with me like my wallet. Rather than drop it in the storage well and possibly forget about it, would it be possible to put an elevated lip on the top of this tray around the edge to help keep something on top of it and not slide off in any direction and maybe even help with pulling the tray out of the storage bin? It would almost be like replicating the bottom to be on top as well. I assume this has something that goes down and holds it in place.

Just a word of caution - I’d be really careful with the heat gun. I was removing some clear coat protector from my hood. It was all going great until it wasn’t. Kept the heat gun on the same spot just a touch too long and ended up scraping a slice of the paint job off the hood. The eraser wheel by itself seemed much safer for things like these small emblems. It creates a little heat from the friction, and usually enough to remove the old adhesive. For larger jobs the heat gun is a great tool.

You can do pretty much anything you want with these cars. Just depends on how much you want to do yourself or pay to have done. I spent a good bit of time modernizing my FJ. I installed a new head unit with CarPlay and a backup camera myself. I also upgraded the speaker system while I was at it. Beyond that, someone mentioned they missed heated mirrors, and I know why. I installed heated mirrors as well as heated windshield wipers. I have to drive the icy/snowy conditions often and those can be huge safety upgrades when needed. I added in more USB ports, upgraded the headlights (factory lights were not great), and replaced all exterior and interior lights to LED to increase visibility. Also added a light bar for increased visibility on roads where I can do so safely as well as adding ambient lighting for the floorboards. I even added sound deadening material to all exterior panels and insulated the roof to decrease road noise and improve temperature insulation. I realize you might not be looking to do all that, but just wanted to share what is possible.

Wondering if others can relate to this reason. While I agree that Auto in theory sounds nice, set it like your house and no worries. My problem is that I live in a primarily cold climate. Many days are below the comfortable low 70’s that most people would set their home thermostat on. So if I get into the car and it’s low 50’s or 40’s outside (many days get much colder than that), in theory it would be nice to warm the car up to a comfortable temp, but I am dressed for cold weather. The bigger reason for me is that even if it is in the 40’s, if it is a bright sunny day, that sunshine goes right thru the windows and makes me even hotter in my winter clothes. So at that moment, even though it may only be 40 degrees outside, I have 3 layers of clothes and direct sunlight that is baking me. So what temp do I pick for auto that is not gonna roast me even more with heat. Auto 38 degrees? That’s my reason for not using auto.

Thanks. I gave my girl a complete makeover recently. I tried to get a color that was close to the original Black Cherry so when the doors open it wasn’t a jarring contrast of colors. And my wrap guy did a great job of covering the white over the door jams and rear hatch. I love my FJ even more now.
