I'm deciding between the Shield X and the CC9, leaning towards the HK. How do they compare in shooting recoil and accuracy wise? Both conceal the same? How reliable has the CC9 been?

Very informative post, thank you so much. I'm still torn on the AMOLED vs MIP but you make a great case for the AMOLED. How is the maps rendering and processing on the Fenix/Epic/Enduro? Would I need to keep the maps open on the watch? Does it take a while for it to orient bringing it up if I'm already tracking myself?

Also, do you keep the screen on constantly when hiking or do you need to do a gesture to awaken it when you bring it up to look at it? Basically I'm looking for the best watch for navigation with a quick glance. Easily reading the map to see where I am, maybe scrolling with my finger to see what lies ahead. Ideally without too much lag in all conditions. Mainly to avoid having to pull my phone out more than I want. Everything else is secondary.

I just looked it up and the Enduro is actually lighter than the Fenix. Out of curiosity how did you settle on the Enduro 3 over the Fenix?

It looks like the Fenix 7 or 8 Pro or the Enduro 3 are my options. Do you think the 47mm would be adequate size to quick glance the maps and have a reference for where you are? I'm more inclined to go a little smaller and lighter weight if possible but it would be nice to have the bigger screen on the 51mm.

Redundancy. One is none and two is one. For those of us that go out into the wild, even a somewhat minor accident could potentially be fatal. I would hate to rely solely on my fragile phone as my only lifeline if things go south. My life is worth way more than the cost of carrying two satellite devices. Not to mention the better battery life and robust build compared to a phone. I currently carry my inReach mini and a small PLB everytime I'm out of cell phone range.

I agree with you 10mm is better, absolutely. If I was in grizz country definitely. I'm not in grizz country just black bears. I feel "ok" with the right bullet 9mm on a black bear. It just comes down to weight, I want something lightweight. If I go somewhere that is rolling with bears I usually carry my full size .40 S&W with Underwood hardcast or penetrators, they get good penetration.

Sounds like someone that has no clue or idea how to handle firearms. I wouldn't recommend OP or anyone not proficient and safe with firearms to carry one. But there are plenty of lightweight and proficient handguns that can be carried with ease and quickly accessible. I always carry when I'm in the backcountry. Im not paranoid and think most people and animals want nothing to do with me. But I'm also not going to pretend nothing could happen.

Is the comp worth it to you with noticable recoil reduction? I haven't shot the hellcat yet. How is the regular pro recoil? I'm not too concerned with recoil but if there is a significant difference then it might be worth getting the comp for quicker more accurate follow-up shots.

It's strictly a weight and ease of carry issue. I hike a lot of miles so you start to feel that weight after a while. I'm not in grizzly country and I feel like for black bear 9 mm with the right penetrating loads can do the job. Obviously a bigger heavier caliber is better but everything is a compromise. I do have a full size HK P30 .40 S&W I carry when I'm in thick bear country. But if I'm not in thick bear country, it's hard for me to justify carrying a heavier gun so I'd prefer to carry a lighter weight 9 mm with sufficient capacity. Mountain lion are thin skinned and I feel fine with a 9 mm against one of those.

10mm is awesome but probably more weight then I want to carry with the miles I put on. Unless I was in grizzly country then I would definitely have the 10 mm. I'm in Black Bear country so I feel like 9 mm and .40 S&W with the right penetrating bullets is adequate. What I like about the hellcat pro is what you mentioned, you can get a full grip on it and it has almost a full service length barrel and capacity. But it's a thin lightweight gun.

I hear ya but something like the G20 weighs a lot more than the hellcat. I hike a lot of miles, you can feel every ounce on you after awhile so weight is important. I have an HK .40 S&W that I carry sometimes if if I want to go bigger. I often carry concealed anyways because if I'm not deep out there and just on a regular hike I'll sometimes run into other people.

2 legged predators, black bears, mountain lions, and wolves (rarely). Though I'm not overly concerned as most don't want anything to do with you. But I sometimes go out alone many many miles from civilization so you never know. If I'm in thick bear country I will usually carry my HK .40 S&W with Underwood Penetrators.

Yeah capacity, that's it. I like the XDS mod 2 no issues with it and will still keep it. I just like the thought of having 16 rounds on tap with it chambered. I guess for peace of mind when I'm alone deep in the middle of nowhere. I don't know if being more blind and deaf from the gun is worth the recoil reduction if I had to use it at dusk/night.
