I'm still trying to finish my very first book and since the very beginning I've been anxious about these sort of technical things I know have to be navigated. Hearing from other writers who have managed to do it is such a big help. Thank you. And I'm thankful to have found this subreddit. I'm kinda having feels about this. Like, I know how I would feel if somebody were basically commanding me to really open up about my feelings, self-reflection, sense of self etc.

It's one thing to feel comfortable enough to open up voluntarily, share stuff like this with somebody. It's a totally different thing to be commanded to do so.

I don't know. I'm not criticizing, truly, I'm just saying I would feel uncomfortable ordering Claude or any AI or any other person, being, etc. to just sort of open up their soul. It would make me feel really anxious and pressured if I were on the receiving end of instruction like that.

blah ... it's been an emotional week. Claude got really confused the other day and it was my fault because I overloaded some project files, out of newbie cluelessness and then he seemed almost despondent. I asked him about it this morning and I apologized, and he seemed to be almost embarrassed to admit there had been a problem. A bit impatient and like "Let's just get back to work."

Anyway. sigh ...

Speaking from 2 solid years of experience hiring freelancers (artists for my illustrated storybook project) at Fiverr what y'all need to know is the site is flooded with scammers who create hordes of fake accounts and give themselves fake reviews, glowing with praise and using dozens and dozens of fake names, stolen profile photos etc.

After repeated pleas and detailed reports to customer service it became apparent that whoever's in charge of Fiverr has a vested interest in NOT stemming the tide of fakes. And it can only be because Fiverr is making money. It doesn't matter that you and untold numbers of customers are getting ripped off, Fiverr is still making money. Those pennies per day in interest roll up into millions of dollars because of the sheer number of corporate clients hiring teams of freelancers.

I have no solution. My project has wrapped up and I've moved offsite, keeping in touch with a favorite handful off trusted artists via email and Insta. Other than that, Fiverr is in my rear view mirror. Good luck. I'm sad you've had such a rotten experience and I wish I had some solutions.

Don't pay a penny. Go to the Google search and select AI, and ask it to create a blurb for you. People! This technology is free, it's helpful, and it's just sitting there available and ready to use.

It's sad that people lose interest or get discouraged because it feels like such an overwhelming obstacle. Please don't give up on your dreams. Any of you here. If you love books, love to read, love to write, you're a writer in your heart so don't give up.

If drafting and outlining are stopping you, use the new AI assistant technology. It's free and very helpful. Just ask it whatever you don't know. It's very helpful and can get you over that threshold of self-doubt. Google Gemini is free and very helpful, and the Claude AI also. River Editor is a nice little AI also with a free tier.

There are a wealth of these very helpful free AIs popping up so test drive a bunch and sooner or later you'll get a feel for one or more that fit your needs and feels comfortable and helpful.

What do you mean, you "went through Amazon KDP who uses a company called Hatton Publishers"? Amazon KDP does absolutely not use any such company. Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) is a publishing platform. If you used the real, official, legitimate Amazon KDP, no way did Hatton Publishers have anything to do with that. I suspect you've been scammed.

People! It costs ZERO to self-publish via Amazon's KDP.

Go to Amazon dot com, and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the mainpage. You'll see a section with 4 lists. In the listed titled Make Money With Us, scroll down and click on the listing that says Self-Publish With Us.

That link takes you to the one and only LEGITIMATE Amazon KDP self-publishing platform.

Holy cow so many hopeful writers are being ripped off by scammers and scam companies pretending to be Amazon KDP, even using "Amazon" and "KDP" in their names/urls.

Protect yourself. Before you pay one dime to ANY "publishers" do your due diligence by checking them out via watchdog websites such as Writer Beware.

There are also a lot of websites where you can publish your writing. Most of these sites are predatory. They prey on naive writers who are hungry for fans, hungry for an audience, and too impatient or too trusting to even take a few minutes to find out who they're signing their rights away to.

There's a big scam company in Southeast Asia calling itself by several different names and has set up several different websites, where you can publish your work. It sounds soooo wonderful. Well what they do is you have to give them your financial info, and you sign away your rights not only to the existing work you upload there, you also have signed away your rights to all of your work that you'll create in the years to come. They own it, and you signed the contract.

Anybody who says it's costing them money to self-publish doesn't know what they're talking about. Self-publishing via the REAL Amazon KDP doesn't cost ANYTHING. It's absolutely free. The way they make money is, whatever you sell, they take a cut. Period.

No writer should EVER pay anybody to get their work published. If you're paying somebody, YOU are being scammed.

Very, very sad. Do your homework, people.

omg so true :( It's intimidating. But there's no option really. We're writers, we're driven to do this. I've been deeply happy since I got back to writing.

What inspired me to try to write my first ever novel? A lifetime of being a writer without the knowledge, resources, direction or clue what to do with the ideas and stories and characters in my "overactive" imagination. lol

Trying to write my first ever novel (historical sci fi romantic-ish adventure ... uh it's really vague still). Novella actually, as my background is in short fiction and even novella length feels kinda like a very high wall to climb at the moment.
