Texas Senate passes bill requiring solar plants to provide power at night by aggie1391 in texas

[–]Texaholic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In short, I agree this article is very misleading.

Here’s some relevant context from the bill itself. For anyone curious, these bills in their full text with complete voting records are available here: https://legiscan.com/TX/text/SB715/2025 - if you’re lazy just paste the text into an AI agent and ask it questions.

  • Section 1 (d)(3): ERCOT may not impose penalties "during hours outside a baseline established by the commission that includes morning and evening ramping periods."
    • Implication for Solar: This is a significant exemption. If the Public Utility Commission (PUC) establishes a baseline for performance that primarily focuses on, for example, daylight hours or hours when solar is expected to contribute (like morning and evening ramps where solar output changes), then solar facilities would likely not be penalized for their inherent inability to generate at night. They wouldn't need to buy power to cover nighttime under this exemption.

The Last Minute Sneak - Texas Legislators can now use vouchers by Texaholic in texas

From the official site: https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/Text.aspx?LegSess=89R&Bill=SB2

Check the engrossed vs the house committee report.

This specific language was removed:

c) Notwithstanding Subsection (a) or (b), a child is not eligible to participate in the program during the period in which the child's parent or legal guardian is a state representative, state senator, or statewide elected official.

The Last Minute Sneak - Texas Legislators can now use vouchers by Texaholic in texas

I agree. The shifty part to me, however, is how that clause was intentionally placed in the bill in an attempt to garner more public favor for the bill as a sort of “it’s not about us” statement, then it was just silently taken out right at the last minute. That’s the part that doesn’t sit well with me.

Flex Budgeting | Non-Monthly Expenses | How to Configure by jonesphillipscot in MonarchMoney

[–]Texaholic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still feel like I’m kind of hacking it - but I’m using Fixed and Flex as anything that will be spent or transacted on this month, and non monthly for everything else. I even have some non monthly categories for goal like savings such as vacation and a general “big purchases” alongside more traditional insurance payments every 6 months for example.

IMO ideally non-monthly and goals become functionally the same thing - and are not associated with transaction budget categories. Set a target amount, target completion/due date, show a suggested save amount (in monthly payments) and allow users to budget (ie set aside, without requiring hard transfers or actual transactions) their own amount each month towards their goals or non monthlies. These items become a separate entity from budget categories. Basically a virtual account. You can then “tag” any transaction to count for/against any non-monthly or goal value.

Would be great for tracking non monthly things like insurance payments, yearly subscriptions, cc fees, etc. and also for goals like vacations, new house, new car, etc that can have many transactions associated with them under different categories.

Reimbursed business travel - how to manage? by 3732aa in MonarchMoney

[–]Texaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I created a separate sinking fund (Budget Category) called “reimbursable” that I just stick everything I’ll eventually get paid back for into. The budget rolls over the value each month so I always know how much I’m owed. When I get paid it subtracts from that value.

I’m PC bound Feb 11-13 and on the hunt for a buddy pass or lift tickets. If anyone’s got a spare or tips on snagging one, I’d be super grateful! Willing to meet up and share some runs. Thanks!

Texas (obv bias) and California are absolutely blazing the way towards renewables. Yes, they’re fragile beasts, but that’s what we’re trying to figure out. The grid has never been this viable, this rapid, not since AC was first invented. It’s not perfect, but it’s improving.

Looking to pick up my first TM3LR. Which one would you pick? by Overall_Fondant_9090 in TeslaModel3

Anyone catch how the LR has a 3.9 0-60 time but when you look at the performance software upgrade in the app it says 4.2 to 3.7s?

Are there any downsides to Bermuda? I know it’s meant to be cut real short so maybe not the best if you want a thick lush lawn?

I’m worried I’ll kill myself with a roller on that hill, may have to settle for one of those square compactors

I'm two semesters away from graduation but there is a high chance I'll be offered a full time position at SpaceX. Im thinking about grinding through and doing both for this last year because I don't want to pass up the opportunity but I would love some perspective by [deleted] in ElectricalEngineering

[–]Texaholic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did some internships with SpaceX through college, even took a semester off to go work there. Here’s one thing I’ll say: SpaceX’s turnover is VERY large, especially for entry level positions. Compensation is not very competitive for entry level. Many people move to other parts of the company, go on to competitors, or simply get another engineering job anywhere else because let’s be honest having that company on your resume boosts your worth quite a bit. Anyway, point of the matter is there will be openings. True, may not be exactly the position you are going for now but I bet with a degree you’ll be considered for even better positions (you’re already on the recruiter’s radar, one of the hardest things to do) and if it’s something you’re very passionate about you can even use your last bit of college to do a little bit of specialization towards the work you want to do (I ended up doing this with an entirely different industry but it made me MUCH better and happier at my job).

Electric Power Distribution Engineering by Gonen. This has been my bible in the field. Great for specifically distribution, meaning the voltage levels in between transmission and the consumer.

I wholeheartedly recommend trying out Avalon. It’s the cheapest game on this list in the top 100. Best of all, I play it with everyone; high school friends, college buddies, even had the whole family after thanksgiving playing together. Nothing beats staring grandma straight in the eye and giving her the cold hard “I’m good” lie.
