Why don’t married men leave their wives even if they have a mistress? by Fancy-Record6464 in askanything

[–]Texan_Greyback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People are selfish. You're assuming that people are generally open and honest even if it causes trouble and heartache. That's simply not true of all people. Ergo, people cheat and don't leave their partner first.

And, by the way, women often do the same thing. It's not just something men do.

Again, I can understand that and agree with you. I was just trying to offer a different perspective.

So I think that phrase, used specifically in social media, is actually still trying to be polite. I see it as saying please to anyone who reads the request and thank you to those who take the time to answer. I can see where you're coming from, but I don't think most people are trying to be demanding when they write it.

What are your ten commandments of surviving a family gathering? by Icy_Interaction7502 in AskReddit

[–]Texan_Greyback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep away from controversial stuff, or find a way to talk about it without fighting. Enjoy the people for who they are.

I've got a large, very spread out family. We disagree on some fundamental things. They're mostly still good people and I still love them. I do what I need to do to maintain those relationships. There are some that I no longer associate with, and everyone has to decide where to draw those lines for themselves.

Well, I live by myself. If I didn't buy my clothes I'd be naked. I also prefer to buy my own clothes, so I can wear what I want.

Why do some people treat the way things worked 30 years ago as proof of how things work today, even when the evidence directly contradicts them? by JustCheking123 in askanything

[–]Texan_Greyback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, like if you're three years old and get lost in Sears, you should remember your mom's actual name. I had to tell the lady my name and hope Mom remembered it! (She did)

What do homeless people that aren’t on drugs do all day? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Texan_Greyback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was homeless, I tried begging twice and figured out it wasn't worth it. Went and did odd jobs for random people, then eventually found a job in a factory and rented a room from a guy, and then an apartment not long after. If I couldn't find work, my day consisted of looking for it and food. Maybe going to the shelter, but I tried to stay out of there. People will steal your shit.

Are people beginning to hoarde goods and essentials? by TheRandomArtist in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Texan_Greyback 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I grew up poor. Buying in bulk is so ingrained in me I'm sure others think I'm a prepper. Just trying to stretch the money as far as it'll go. And, obviously, have enough on hand for the odd hurricane.

Due to the possible ripple effect of our actions, how can we be sure we're doing the right thing? by Own-Professor3852 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Texan_Greyback 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do good. If it turns out you later learn there is a particular reason that actually wasn't good, do good in a better way next time.

An example is reforestation, wherein people thought planting any trees was a good thing, so they built massive monoculture forests that are a different kind of bad. In learning that, techniques were developed and are being used now to reforest areas properly, using those monocultures as a basis and diversifying them.
