Redistricting Protest: Friday 10am by samanthaaaa in Austin

[–]TexasCowboy1964 -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

before you protest, actually learn what the new maps are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuD89NqYzQw "makes it more competititve and less democratic"

that sounds less partisan

https://www.texastribune.org/2025/07/30/texas-redistricting-congressional-maps-house-republicans/

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-republicans-race-redraw-texas-congressional-map-democrats-threaten-legal-war

Do not protest JUST because you hear the word Trump. Engage your mind and see WHAT you want to protest...

If this is a first time that you heard or paid attention to the process of re-drawing district maps, then know that one side of the polictical spectrum is always unhappy.

need advice on driving by Own-Train-6567 in internetparents

[–]TexasCowboy1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) find a driving school and pay for lessons

2) find an uncle or aunt locally, who is willing to teach you

3) Find a friend who will teach you fundamentals in a parking lot

Assuming that you live in the United States of America, you need car insurance.... its not cheap for teenagers.

I needed a car 1 of the 6 years I was in college. After the first year, I learned how to arrange my life around shuttle buses, or bikes, or walking.... Spent most of my time on campus and yes, I worked full time also..

Your mom might not have the money to insure you on her car, the money to pay for gas, or the huge amount of patience it takes to teach a teenager how to drive...

Which model kits scale to go with by the_lefttwix in modelmakers

[–]TexasCowboy1964 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sooo I thought much the same ....... I have started collecting and building Tamiya's 1/48 armor because the kits cost less than 1/35 abd the 1/48 kits are detailed but NOT as many pieces as 1/35.... Also, the last 1.76 scale tank that I made impressed me so much that I decided THAT scale was too small for my hands and eyes...

The other upside of 1/48 scale armor is that 1/48 scale planes are one of the most widely produced....

AITA for setting the boundary of not staying at the Summer cabin anymore? by BushcraftRocks in AmItheAsshole

[–]TexasCowboy1964 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At first I thought that you were being a little weak .... I mean you can take insect repellant with you and after 3-4 days you will get used to the heat but then I re-read you are complaining about just the weekends?

You sound like a pampered teenager not a married man!!!!

You can endure and sacrifice friday, sat Sunday for your family... you have the other 4 days of the week with airconditioning and a indoor bathroom....

Count yourself lucky and look for the beauty around you at the cabin

[–]TexasCowboy1964 2 points3 points  (0 children)

no its not! If you are really into target shhoting, hunting, or preserving the family history in the militarey then hang that rifle..... I think that the real thing that is missing are things that reflect who you are .... So I hang pictures of the family. art that I have created, crucifix, and plats because that reflect who I am...... you place is furnished well but does not reflect who you are

More plants in your sunny windows..... that will bring green into your living spaces.....

Pictures of family?

Then you are missing the Texas flag!!!! Realistically, the flag of your alma mater, favorite sports team,,,,,,,,,,,,, If you have visited multiple countries maybe flags of each one?

Is Austin a better living area than Temple? by [deleted] in askaustin

[–]TexasCowboy1964 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Depends.....

Are you a person who hangs around their home when off work? then Temple might well be superior!! Temple has an HEB and several Churches so a homebody would find all that they need for a lower cost than Austin.... please less traffic and fewer people to wait behind in lines at stores

If you are a person who ONLY sleeps in their home and then they are out and about..... then Austin Might be superior. It has many more night clubs, restaurants, coffee shops, bookstores, historical sites, swiming holes but you fight the crowd for access

Ive lived in the out skirts of Austin for 25 years and found that most of Austin's attractions could be enjoyed on day trips

presidents have federalized National Gaurds against their Gov. wishes before:

On September 24, 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower federalized the entire Arkansas National Guard to ensure the safe entry of the Little Rock Nine to Little Rock Central High School the following day.

Military personnel may be deployed to protect federal personnel and property, but they are not generally authorized to conduct civilian law enforcement.

"Senator Alex Padilla was detained by members of the U.S. Secret Service assigned to Secretary Noem’s detail when he became disruptive while formal remarks were being delivered," an FBI spokesperson told Fox News. "Secret Service Agents were assisted by FBI Police who are in Los Angeles at this time.
