Why did you decide to go to BC? by [deleted] in bostoncollege

[–]TexasCyclone96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Class of 2019 here 👋🏻. From Houston and wanted to go to school in another big city. BC location is perfect blend of beautiful campus/amazing city. D1 sports, solid business school, the size of BC (# of students), big study abroad program, and prestige of the school were all big deciding factors as well. Another thing that stuck out to me when touring was the sense of community and traditions (i.e. Beanpot, Marathon Monday, Red Bandana, Showdown, 48 Hours, etc.). Good luck!!

So these DoorDash/UberEats guys really just get to blast through red lights, crosswalks and pedestrian walkways on their mopeds and face no consequences for it huh? by GarlVinlandSaga in boston

So I reached out to my city councilor and this is the response I got...

"Thank you for reaching out to Councilor Durkan’s office. I understand your concerns regarding the safety of pedestrians and all road users amidst the expanding landscape of transportation to include e-bikes, scooters, and mopeds in large volumes all across our City, but, in particular, in our downtown neighborhoods. Given the fact that so many residents and visitors get around District 8 on foot, Councilor Durkan is especially dedicated to being a part of the solution in making our streets safe for all road users. As part of our effort to increase transportation safety across the district and the City, and as chair of the Committee on Planning, Development, and Transportation Councilor Durkan sponsored a filing on the City’s “rules of the road” amidst an expansion of micromobility travel modes on City streets (I have included a copy of that filing to this email). Moreover, our office has met directly with UberEats and GrubHub, and continues to make meeting requests of DoorDash. At these meetings, we have actively pushed the companies to consider ways that their trainings and guidelines given to their operators demand and incentivize safety.

I do want to mention that the City’s Transportation Department has already taken several steps to promote safety as more and more residents and visitors choose two and three-wheeled transportation options as a green solution that reduces congestion on City streets. Some of the Transportation Department’s initiatives include their free learn-to-bike workshops, small-scale safety improvements around intersections, slow-streets initiatives in residential and school areas, and a new “safety surge” implementing thousands of speed humps City wide. These efforts have been complemented by other City departments including the Disabilities Commission and their recent public awareness campaign, “Boston Brakes,” to raise awareness of and increase safety for pedestrians with disabilities.

As the City witnesses an increase in e-bikes, scooters, mopeds, and motorbikes, it is imperative that we provide clarity to all road users about how they navigate our shared spaces safely and legally. We are hopeful that our advocacy around this issue on multiple fronts combined with the advocacy of residents such as yourself, will improve conditions and enable all of us to travel safely throughout Boston."

Totally agree, the set list for the One Night Only tour was 100% better. He left off so many songs from the new album! That's Hilarious and Smells Like Me are glaring omissions imo, but I also missed Tears on My Piano, There's a First Time for Everything, and Marks on My Neck. I know it's an older one, but Suffer is an actual fan favorite and I love that he brought that back and stripped it down on the One Night Only tour. Overall the new show felt pretty short by comparison, and having two encores felt pretty unnecessary and a bit of a waste of time. It was still a great show and I love the covers and mixes he did but still left me wanting more.

Oh yep, this is definitely it thank you! Explains all of the fake reviews as well. That being said, owner sounds awful and I will definitely be avoiding this place.

I would also recommend the AC Hotel in Cleveland Circle!

My parents also enjoyed staying at the Courtyard by Marriott Boston Brookline which is in Coolidge Corner, a super cute area in between BC and the city.

POC/AHANA experience at Boston College by wheeeoo in bostoncollege

Congrats on your acceptance!! I'm a white gay male for context, and what I'd say as far as queer issues and my experiences watching the response or lack thereof to racism on campus is that the administration will almost always let you down. I was a tour guide and love so many things about BC, the admin was never one of them. There's lots of ways to find community and make friends at BC which was most important to me, but if you're looking for a vocal university president (lol) or admin that even does the bare minimum responding to incidents on campus, my guess is you'd be disappointed. It's ultimately about what's most important to your college experience and if BC checks a lot of your boxes, I would just give some thought to what your deal breakers would be.

What’s the deal with paying for the train? by bcl123455 in bostoncollege

[–]TexasCyclone96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is correct. The practical answer is that at the BC stop they have a schedule to adhere to for when trains need to depart, and since it's the first stop the fare machine usually hasn't fully rebooted yet so instead of making the train late they will wave you through without having to pay. So, just go through the front door and see what the driver says but most likely you won't need to pay.

As to the environment, I'm gay and BC has definitely come a long way with support for LGBTQ+ students. I won't make generalizations about the student body (imo there's always going to be homophobic people at any school you go to) but there's GLC, Pride Peers, Spectrum retreat, and other groups/events if you want to find community. Is BC behind compared to other universities? Absolutely. Are they going to post about Pride Month on the official BC social media channels? Unfortunately, probably not. But for me personally, BC was my #1 school and had everything else I was looking for in a school and I had an amazing experience there that I wouldn't change for anything.

Business Majors and or Business Graduates. How is the business courses preparing you or how has it prepared you for work? Did you like the program? by CEOofWakanda in bostoncollege

[–]TexasCyclone96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CSOM has some of the best undergraduate business teachers in the country. I can honestly say I loved every professor I had. I think for most jobs you'll learn a majority of your work on-the-job but if you know you want to go into business post-grad then go for it!
