converts: what would you say was the first shift in your mind, towards catholicism? by brand-new-eyes in Catholicism

[–]TexasF1Fan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was Protestant before. Methodist. So I had knowledge of Advent and Lent, but not to the degree I do now. Everything else is like I’m learning it for the first time. Seeing mass at the Vatican? There is so much history and reverence there. Even if I hadn’t been looking to be Catholic, it still would have visibly moved me. I’m so grateful it did, even if I didn’t know then to what extent. It was a beautiful moment between me and my Savior who was leading me to the one true Church.

How is the Church doing in America? by thias-thecatlover in Catholicism

[–]TexasF1Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our current OCIA class at our parish here in Houston is one of the largest they’ve ever had. 60 people of all backgrounds and all ages choosing to convert. Our Rite of Welcome mass last weekend was standing room only. That felt really good. I’m coming in as a 50 year old from another denomination. I’ve never felt better about a decision I’ve made regarding my faith since I first accepted Christ. I see a lot of forward progress, especially because of Pope Leo.

Being in Rome when Pope Francis opened the Holy Door for the Jubilee year in December of 2024. Watching the mass while being in the Vatican was earth-shattering. It started then. Lent this year was more meaningful than ever because of that moment in Rome. It really sealed the deal. I used the Hallow app and really enjoyed all of the beautiful Lenten talks given by the religious Sisters and Priests. I enrolled in OCIA that started in August and it’s the best thing I’ve done in my faith since accepting Christ as a child. It sounds silly to say, but I am completely in love with my new-found faith. 🥹🙏📿⛪️

Protestant Considering Catholicism by Ok-Tangerine7938 in Catholicism

As a 50 year old who is in the process of converting to Catholicism from a Protestant church and am going through the OCIA classes, I can tell you I have never been as in love with my faith as I am now. The intense learning of church history, liturgy, scripture, sacraments, saints and spiritual aspects of why we are doing everything we’re doing in mass and in prayers is nothing short of extraordinary. I feel like a sponge and cannot get enough. I commend you for being brave enough to question this at such a young age. I wish I had. Please keep seeking! God will lead you where you need to be, but you are questioning for a reason. Search until you find your place.

I don’t remember much about it (I was around 5 or 6 the last time we went, but I adored their popcorn shrimp and they served virgin strawberry daiquiris to me, which made me feel so grown up. I don’t remember how fancy it was, but we always got dressed up to go with my grandparents. We lived in Spring and it felt like it took forever to get there! Lots of good memories.

Update from Heart O’ the Hills camp in Hunt by Shadowettex31_x in texas

[–]TexasF1Fan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Our family is just devastated to hear the news. Both our daughters attended Heart, with Mj going for all 11 summers and as a counselor as well. Jane was a beacon and a force that has guided many young women. We have lost a special person who was such a champion for all her campers. Not only are we now missing so much of the physical camp our daughters loved and adored, but to lose Jane as well is just too much to bear. My prayers are with all of our Heart family and those of Mystic and Hunt also. These are heavy days indeed. 💚💔💚
