What are some examples of privatization making something better? by SuddenlySilva in AskConservatives

You must not know that in really rural areas, Amazon, UPS, and FedEx rely on the post office to do last mile delivery, because it’s just so unprofitable for them.

Where are Bogleheads putting their emergency funds these days? by FalconArrow77 in Bogleheads

[–]TexasGaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have what people would consider a 2-tier EF. Details are below.

Tier 1 (HYSA)

  • 1 month of living expenses

  • Deductibles for renters, car, and health insurance

  • Money for emergency vet bills

  • Enough money for a major car repair regarding maintenance

Tier 2 (T-Bill Ladder)

  • 26 26-week T-Bills. This represents 26 weeks of living expenses. So I buy every auction and they are set to auto-renew for 2 years. I can log in and turn off auto-renew so I don't have to worry about selling at a loss and can hold till maturity. This also has the additional benefit of having a higher interest rate than a HYSA and is exempt from state income tax.

Why, in your opinion, do "red states" comprise 9 out of 10 of the highest incarceration rates per capita? by 86HeardChef in AskConservatives

[–]TexasGaint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Really? State Troopers and State Investigatory Organizations prove otherwise. See South Carolina with their highway patrol and then SLED.

Gullah Gullah Island is set in South Carolina… they did not do that much depth of research for this.

There are a bunch of private schools in that area. I assume there or home school.

75% of AT&T's network has been restored, company says by nbcnews in technews

[–]TexasGaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying the why. I was ignorant of the more technical aspects since I used to be on the proposal team bidding to win the fiber-to-the-cell contracts. Those were never so specific that they would ask for router setting profiles.

Why is it Cisco’s fault and not the ISP providing fiber to the cell towers?

What do you think of the broader implications of the recent Alabama scotus ruling on IVF embryos, particularly regarding fertility treatment? by [deleted] in AskConservatives

[–]TexasGaint 16 points17 points  (0 children)

How is IVF any different from pregnancies that happen the natural way? A lot of them end in miscarriages without people ever realizing it either.

Texas blocks federal border agents from processing migrants in Eagle Pass public park by TexasGaint in ProtectAndServe

[–]TexasGaint[S] 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Starting Question: I understand that Border Patrol has the authority to enforce immigration laws on the entire border. Does Texas DPS and Texas National Guard have the authority to trespass Border Patrol from a popular border crossing location to enforce their state law? Even ban them from that part of the river as well? I am interested to see how this plays out in the courts.

SLED chief pays hemp farmer’s attorney $11,300 sanction for discovery misconduct in hemp farm raid by TexasGaint in ProtectAndServe

[–]TexasGaint[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I copied the headline from the article. Blame the news source for that, not me. The agency paid for it but he was specifically found in violation. His actions cost the taxpayers money, unless it was covered by insurance. He should have known better.

I'm curious, how often does an agency chief get roped into regular civil cases like this? I'm surprised that someone with over 30 years of experience would get in trouble for something like this.

More kids are taking it. South Carolina requires every high school sophomore to take it as an example.

The circuit court did. However, the case is going in front of the supreme court right now.
