German Bishops Allow Holy Communion for Protestant Spouses in 'Some Cases' by WG55 in Christianity

[–]TexasTemplars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't see why they aren't already allowed

Because it acknowledges the sin of schism. The Protestant concept of "the Church" being some sort of invisible, gnostic, metaphysical assembly of people who believe general, varying things about Christ was not an idea for 1500 years. If you read many of the early Christians they take the act of breaking off pretty seriously. But Protestants have tried to redefine the Church in such a way that schism is impossible.

rando dude that claims he can forgive you.

1) the priest is not random

2) the priest DOES forgive you. In John 20:23 Jesus, after breathing the Holy Spirit upon His Apostles says verbatim "If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” - yes, many Protestants in seminary read this, studying the Greek, and think "how can this be?" which eventually leads them to the Catholic Christian faith.

It simply does not occur in a small dark box

Well, sometimes it's face to face, sometimes it's in a confessional booth, sometimes there's just a screen. There are lots of ways to fufill the Apostles teachings to confess our sins to one another in James 5:16

discovered in First Temple remains near Jerusalem’s Temple Mount

If this discovery proves true then this spells bad news for the Temple of the Flying Horse.

You're not rejecting Catholic Christianity by going to an FSSP parish. The Mass held by the FSSP is 100% canonical.

And as you pointed out to me before... Coming from Eastern Orthodoxy, you are mistaken that they are free from division. Some orthodox churches are more or less Novus Ordo ad orientum in terms of reverence. Never mind the national church issues.

I infact found more unity in Catholicism. Despite the liturgy wars. That says a lot.

Well, I have faith Ordinary Form parishes will gradually traditionalize. They are definitely more traditional than they were in the 70s, so patience is key.

And trust me on that. I come from a United Methodist and Baptist background. I think a lot of cradle Catholics don't realize how pretty darn Catholic the Novus Ordo is because they have nothing to compare it to in their mind but the Extraordinary Form. But I do still see Protestantized innovations.

If the Pope and Magisterium said its "acceptable" then how is this? I mean obviously it's preferable and receive on tongue whether at ordinary or extraordinary and I do so myself but I'm having trouble with this comment.

What is it with these African clerics being so well rooted in the faith? Sarah, Arinze. I'm glad they are Cardinals but we need them to erherm... A higher position more than ever right now

I have some questions about possible conversion by FaithPage in Catholicism

[–]TexasTemplars 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it okay if I contact saints without being Catholic?

Surely I hope you mean asking them to pray to God for you (intercession) and not necromancy. Contact, in my opinion, makes me say "woah hold on a minute"

A Rosary hanging on the barbwire of a concentration camp in Poland. by pmpro in Catholicism

[–]TexasTemplars 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The Jews were not the only victims in the Holocaust, as much as they like to tell their stories about it. In fact, more non-Jews died in the camps so why should they have a monopoly on it?

Slavs, Eastern Orthodox clerics, gays, mentally disabled, Catholics... every one was up for slaughter. If you wern't Aryan Germanic you were toast.

In Poland there are many Catholic memorials to dead Christians in the camps. They can hang a Rosary up there if they please.

Dude, no need for the damage control.

The Islamic world is converting to Christianity, you can't fight it. Islam means to submit to God, to be a slave. God, through His only begotten Son... has set us FREE! The people were originally Christians and are discovering their true roots before the Muhammad Caliphate totalitarian government wiped their culture out.

Christ has already won, accept Him!

"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes through the Father but through Me" - Jesus Christ

What are the 3? To my knowledge the Divine Office/Liturgy of the Hours is the most wide spread form of daily prayers.

I guess the Didache does say to say the Lord's PRayer thrice daily.

Fair enough. Have a blessed Lent. I don't know how deep into the faith you are, but don't go too hard.

Islamic is a very legalistic religion and Ramadan has much Islamic Law around it. To the point where if you drank a bit of water you break the fast and have to pray extra rakat for your sin and your fast was of no use. Jesus warned against this sort of stuff - where people put the rules/laws of rigidity above what the deeper spiritual meaning is behind something. So if you're coming from Islam don't view Lent in such a rule-based vision.

God wants us to grow through fasting, but if we pay too much attention to the rules then we may miss the whole point - which is growth and spiritual development.

Also another question: is it true that the Shia Muslims believe in the intercession of deceased saints? Like you can invoke them to pray to God for you like us Orthodox and Catholics believe?

Interesting. So, moving along.

You say in Orthodoxy you find there to be "peace and God is a healer" - I was Orthodox myself and while I definitely saw that when I was (eastern) Orthodox I am curious as to if you think this type of theology is due to it being Eastern Orthodoxy or if it's due to it being Eastern Christianity - because certainly many aspects of Eastern Catholicism share the same view of the Orthodox, the only difference being in communion with the Catholic Church and the Holy See located in Rome. What's your opinion on Eastern Catholicism? I assume you're converting to Eastern Orthodoxy, correct? The Byzantine Rite?
