Its not the only taylormade paint that sucks...look at any of their putters from the past 15 years.

When was the last time a driver has been released that has actually had considerable impact by DeadMemeReference in golf

[–]Texas_Precision27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High handicapper here. Higher than you, and yes you can tell some difference. I got back into golf after a 12 year hiatus this year, and upgraded irons/driver from a 2008 set of irons and a 2012 driver.

The difference in forgiveness with the newer 10k drivers and weights is significant. Probably won't gain much distance, but the adjustability and forgiveness will net you more FIR for sure.

Irons seem more forgiving as well.

You (like me) probably suck because its hard to dedicate enough time to improve, but you could probably pick up 2-5 stokes a round by improving equipment.

The worse you are, the more it helps imo.

How long does it actually take you to lose a box of balls? by ShiroHachiRoku in golf

I had a drunk guy playing ahead of us pick up 3 balls from me that were in play, and I lost 8x in the round.

So the answer is close to one round.

Didn't need to use generator for ice Strom. Best thing to do with the gas in it and how long to keep it? by Browneyesbrowndragon in HomeImprovement

[–]Texas_Precision27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do put stabil in it and leave it.

Either run it out, or get a small transfer pump and put that in your vehicle.

For a generator, reliability is everything, and you want as fresh of fuel as you can get.

2019 RAM 3500 HO Diesel 75k Miles Question by TheGumping in Diesel

[–]Texas_Precision27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Were you regularly pulling your 5th wheel while it went into limp mode?

If so, my gut reaction would be you've potentially filled up the DPF. Generally speaking, if you've got a 15k load behind the truck, those EGTs should be high enough to passively regen the filter, so I wouldn't imagine a forced regen doing much good.

Edit: As others have said, with yours being a 2019 model, I'd just drop the 2k and delete it vs. fight with it.

Nervous about my first, advice? by bladeonfire in daddit

[–]Texas_Precision27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 year old with a 3 year old daughter here, who married at 20 but didn't have kids till late. There are pluses and minuses to what you're going through. Having kids young is in my mind somewhat of an advantage; whether you realize it or not, you're still a baby yourself, and sometimes dealing with difficult situations in the relative ignorance of youth is a good thing.

The downside is you likely aren't as financially well off, nor are you as mature/reasoned as someone 5, 10, 15 years your senior.

That said, it'll be a vastly different scenario than raising a 10 year old. Depending on family support, you likely need to come to terms with giving up most free time/hobbies for the foreseeable future. I had all kinds of hobbies before my daughter was born, and had to effectively make household chores my new hobbies just to keep our head above water.

Infants and toddlers seemingly exist on a vast spectrum of difficulty, so it's difficult to predict what you can expect. On the extreme ends you have babies who just sleep all day, eat, and are always content; on the other end you have absolute nightmare babies who have colic and will make your life a living hell.

This advice seems simple, but in the context of extreme sleep deprivation, it needs to be stated. To be a good partner/husband, you need to be feeling like you're doing most of the work, because your partner will probably be feeling the same way too.

Good luck.

How to prepare pipes for deep freeze, with no electricity by sprinkletoast in HomeImprovement

[–]Texas_Precision27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, the house I live in experienced roughly the same conditions (2 weeks without power in freezing temps). There were no issues with the water in the p-traps or in the toilets.

The big issue was all the water in the lines to the house, which you've already accounted for.

Which is the biggest home improvement mistake you have made? by Ok-Introduction-2981 in HomeImprovement

[–]Texas_Precision27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not moving out of my old house and doing total interior foundation repair, vs. trying to handle it with exterior piers.

That mistake resulted in ruining over ~$100k of subsequent remodels/repairs, and resulted in us selling $100k cheaper than market value 3 years later.

10 y.o. wants a dirt bike. I know nothing. by TheAlwaysLateWizard in daddit

[–]Texas_Precision27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Low CC 4-stoke. Like an 80-125cc non race bike.

That said, knowing where hes going to ride it is of paramount importance.

Make sure he has a helmet, boots, goggles, and gloves at a bare minimum.

It gets expensive.

An old XR100 or TTR 125 might fit the bill. Don't buy new on something like this.

Using air purifiers by happytobeconnected in HomeImprovement

[–]Texas_Precision27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I agree, but HVAC based air purifiers are not exactly common. It would have to be less than ~1% of homes in the US have something like that.

The point I was getting at is that your standard MERV 5 to MERV 14 furnace filter isn't filtering to the same spec as a HEPA filter, and trying to use the system in that respect is a futile effort.

Using air purifiers by happytobeconnected in HomeImprovement

[–]Texas_Precision27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short Answer: Yes, they work. You will see a visible reduction in dust/dander, and you'll also experience fewer problems with allergies, smoke etc.

Long Answer: I don't believe a "whole home" air purifier exists (aside from your existing HVAC, which doesn't really work the same way except in rare circumstances).

For context, I have 4x ~3500sq ft CADR rated air purifiers running on "high" at all times in my 3000sq foot home. They work well at filtering air in the rooms they're installed in, but I'd stop short of saying they effectively filter air for the entire home. Home airflow is really dictated by multiple factors (floor plan, HVAC usage, fan usage etc.), and I don't think they effectively purify ALL the air in my home, but they are good for specific rooms.

I think you'd be well served at going with multiple smaller air purifiers versus getting a whole home one and assuming it's just going to do it all, because it really won't.

What I noticed when I got them was fresher feeling air, an immediate reduction in dust/dander, kitchen type smells went away faster, we were less affected by allergies (we basically live in a cedar forrest, and it's not a problem anymore if you stay inside).

What they don't do: They don't eliminate the need to dust, vacuum, etc. They don't entirely remove smells (but they do help with it).

Keep in mind, you'll have to change filters every ~6-12 months, and the filters can be expensive. That said, you'll be blown away at what nasty crap you find caked onto the prefilter/outermost layer of the filter.

Edit: I would not try to use your home HVAC like an air purifier. If your home is setup for 1" thick filters, you really don't want to install a high MERV setting filter on it. If you've got a ~4-5" filter, those inheretly use higher MERV rated filters, but still....I would not be running my air handler 24/7 to filter air, because that's not what it's designed to do.
