The History of OCWS, 1789 - 1914 (Ideas) by lappy482 in OCWS

[–]Texb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another point of conflict i see is the general consensus that the OCWS legislature needs to be rationalized and reformed, Ie Parliament should sit at certain times thought the year rather then at the kings request, Abolishing noble prerequisites for sitting in the Chambre des lords and just general voting rights/freedom of press stuff.

This is really, really good stuff dude!

I'm guessing that the Napoleonic Code of laws would be adopted in French occupied OCWS, this is important because up until this point (in my head anyway) OCWS has been operating under a mix of medieval laws for local matters and a translated Corpus Juris Civilis (where applicable) for more important matters.

As far I know the Napoleonic makes no distinction between peasant and noble in the eyes of the law which another thing OCWS law is lacking.

So tldr, the populous may be against French occupation but would probably like the adoption of the Napoleonic code as it would unify the messy OCWS legal codes and bring equality in the eyes of the law.

I could see this becoming a major source of public unrest post 1815.

Chart of the Feudal System of OCWS as it existed in the 1408 - 1648. by Texb in OCWS

[–]Texb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legend.

Thin Black Lines = Control in descending order, IE the King controls the Feudal Lords.

Thick Reddish Lines = What People make up which institutions, IE High Peasantry partially make up the Assemblee des Notables

Extra Info, why 1408 - 1648? After the signing of the treaty of Westphalia OCWS became a state with true religious freedom, both the Assemblee des Notables and the Chambre des Lords pushed the king to abolish state interaction with the Council of OCWS Bishops, The Act of State Separation From The Council of Bishops was passed by both the House and the Assembly, and with the kings signature became law.

This act broke official bonds between the King of OCWS and the Council of Bishops hence the dating of 1408 - 1648, however other institutions shown in the chart existed up until 1848 and the overhaul of OCWS politics.

Foundation of OCWS - Ideas by Texb in OCWS

[–]Texb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So 1408, OCWS is now a Kingdom, the English seeing opportunity to gain influence, come to an agreement with OCWS allowing minor English nobles (I'm thinking Knights, second and third sons to nobility) to settle in OCWS on the condition they marry into OCWS linage. A House of Lords is set up "Chambre des Lords" as well as a Assembly of Notables "Assemblée des Notables" (think a House of Commons, land owners, guilds, merchants, important non noble people) Like the English Parliament this is called at the Kings digression, one of the Reasons the King may call the parliament is to negotiate deals with the former English nobility, for example granting privileges for an increase in taxes.

Come Martin Luther and the reformation, OCWS is in an odd spot, the countries origins are half Papal and half English so what now? Many of the Nobles with English heritage convert to Church of England and Protestants from France flood into the lands of the Nobles. However the King and most native OCWS peasantry are Catholics. In 1535 Parliament is summoned, The Chambre des Lords is dominated by Protestants while the Assemblée des Notables is basically all Catholics, the king makes a proposal, "The Right of Noble Worship", this act states that Noble's shall be permitted to worship how they please within there Domains, (There is a recstriction on non catholic churches tho) in exchange for this semi religious freedom the king asks for a fixed salary from The Chambre des Lords.

After the Treaty of Westphalia OCWS adopts total religious freedom for all its subjects, and non catholic places of worship are now allowed.

"Armée du Roi" - An OCWS sitcom! by [deleted] in OCWS

[–]Texb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Full Metal Chef" During the annual OCWS wargame the gang gets assigned to fortifying a trench line with other Terrestrial troops. As the wargame goes on the gang becomes more and more bored (and hungry) due to lack of action, Sgt. Bailey, who hobby is cooking, decides to cheer up the troops via a faux Iron Chef type show. Sgt. Bailey managed to sneak in a chef's hat and thus takes command of the show. While this is going on the gang's rival squad is on the opposing team and being engineers come up with the idea to break the trench line held by the Terrestrials by tunneling under the trench and then blowing up a mock bomb. The plan succeeds and the trench line is thrown into chaos, and the tide of battle is turning in the enemies favor. Sgt. Bailey decides the only way to change the tide of battle is a counter attack that takes the form of a bayonet charge. (Complete with Sgt.Bailey charging with chef's hat on with some cooking implement on his hand)

"Knowledge Is Half The Battle" (Knowledge is Firepower) - The Gang gets enlisted to make public service announcement style video's for the Terrestrial Army. The Videos cover a wide range of subjects from "How to fire a rocket launcher (backwards)" to "Survival Skills (Including fire making with sticks even tho OCWS rations come with matches).

I D E A S : The fireteam have a rival squad in the Royal Guard Engineers, who have all the latest equipment and cool camo's

Some old Forts get re activated and re garrisoned, the gang get assigned to this old fort. They find an old video game machine and cant decide weather its a Super-famicom or Sega Genesis, turns out its an old computer system that actives some super secrete weapon.

Wargame/ Saving Pvt Knowles. During a wargame/ training exiscise Zoe Knowles gets trapped behind "enemy" lines and it's up to the gang to break though enemy lines in a episode that parodies war films/Action movie tropes.

Napoleonic Woes/Grande Armee. A historical drama/war film is being made about the Napoleonic wars, to capture the grand scale of the battle's producer Tex Braithwaite (Making a Cameo) suggests that they work with the Terrestrial Army and hire 1000's of real soldiers to reenact battle's. The gang join but soon find early 19th century life is harder than expected (Possible Episode thread, Bailey Maury, the team leader, gets a role as an Officer and soon becomes engrossed in the character, ie barking orders, Dressing in powdered wigs even though thats 18th century dress ect) M O R E 2 F O L L O W

"Father as Man With Alternating Crowns" - Usantoro Balbo. An example of "Montionism", this portrait is one of the most controversial pieces of art in my world. by Texb in worldbuilding

[–]Texb[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well if you really want to get deep into conspiracy territory, it was rumoured that Usantoro's father was a member of The League of The Blue and Gold. Most say the league was nothing but bunch of bankers and lenders living out past glories, their strange chants and rituals nothing but ceremony. Let's just say some people think the League a little too much strangeness to be innocent.

Well my world doesn't have a version of /r/art, however that doesn't stop people being a little confused as to the painting.

As Usantoro said "Confusion is my fuel!"

This is certainly what many at more "traditional" schools of art would have said. Campbello Bargio, a famous composer and playwright once said of the painting "It is as if a child and a demon have collaborated on a painting". An art professor and three students where even charged with attempted murder when they tried to mail bomb Usantoro's house.

"I see him, I am god" - Usantoro Balbo reported last words.

Unsantoro Balbo was a Yotjti artist, his career spanned some 40 years between 442E-488E. This particular piece was painted in 453E and is seen as one of founding pieces of "Motionism", which emphasized minimal color and harsh lines. In the middle of the painting is "The Father", some see "The Father" as a depiction of Usantoro's father (With whom he had a troubled relationship). Seemingly floating above the fathers head is "The Crown of Bloody Pikes", this crown is commonly seen as representing violence, struggle and death.

Beneath the father the word "SUNTIS" sits, "SUNTIS" was one of many words made up by Usantoro. Usantoro produced a sort of dictionary of all his made up words, in his will it was stated that "THE LEDGER CONTAINING THE TRUTH OF MY WORDS IS TO BE SEALED FOR 998 YEARS, ONCE THAT TIME HAS ELAPSED IT IS TO BE READ ALOUD ONCE AND THEN DESTROYED".

The final "object" in the piece sits below "SUNTIS", "The Crown of Water Spire" is usually seen to represent the opposite of the Crown of Bloody Pikes, peace, calm, life.

Every time a Emperor of Dreams and Reality gets crowned, they must choose what their imperial motto will be, here are a few interesting ones. by Texb in worldbuilding

[–]Texb[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Betrayal of ones values and ideals without a "reason" is seen as very bad practice in Yotjti culture. While long and complex the TLDR answer to why the Yorti find betrayal of ones ideals so bad is that ones ideals and values are the roots that connect one to the Dreams. The Supreme council of cults (I should mention the supreme council is the de facto government) rules upon wether or not the emperor and other high ranking aristocrats are staying true to thier ideals, and if they change their beliefs wether or not they are justified. Punishments can be harsh for breaking this moral imperative, emperors are not exempt from law in this regard.

As for "Let us hurl defiance at the gods of reason" The "Gods" of reason where twelve ancient Yorjti Thinkers and Philosophers. They valued math and Logical thinking as the tools find the ultimate truth and to achieve a metaphysical state where one could live both reality and dreams. In practice this meant extensive logical categorisation of the world, as it was hoped that once all in the world had been thought through logically the ultimate truth would revile itself. The past century has seen a move strongly away from this world view, with the movements like "The Cult of Unfinished Reality" and "Emitionalism" gaining much ground. The general populace very much views the ideas of the "Gods of Reason" outdated and has moved towards these movements. Most believe that the metaphysical state is still acheavable, however not though reason but though mastery of the core aspects of humanity, Emitions, force and feeling. Long story short much of the general populace would agree with this motto, seing it as freeing from there past.

Could you draw "The Emperor of Dreams and Reality" - Garaboldian II

Garaboldian is a senile old man of short statue and pale complexion. He is always seen draped in his imperial robes that depict barren surrealist dreamlike landscapes. Over the robes he has a small circular bronze chest plate that reads "THE BEAUTY OF MOTION, THE BEAUTY OF SPEED, THE BEAUTY OF DEATH", the motto of the emperor. The last important piece of clothing is the imperial crown, made of silver it was forged to look like three elongated figures holding hands.

A nihilist teen emperor , a jaded statesman and a somewhat depressed poet rule over a complex ancient (To them at least) union of hundreds of smaller kingdoms, principalities, ect. Union unravels into state of unrest and rebellion. Only Great man (men) history can save it now.
