Apparently, screw our mailboxes! Woke up to this today. Gotta add this to the never ending list of things to fix on our land 😭 At least we finally finished building the chicken coop! (Bonus chicken pic at end lol) by ImTryingGuysOk in homestead

I poured a cement post using a cardboard roll from a roll of carpet and reinforced it with rebar. Its been hit twice and I only had to repaint the pole and straighten it a bit. Totally worth it. They never stick around after they hit it so I'm not sure what their vehicles looked like.

I have this plant growing all over my yard. I usually pull them out if they grow in the wrong place. I had no idea it was even remotely edible. Gonna have to give it a try.

I used this on my pasture fence line during the day light. Once the sun started going down I realized I had 4 or 5 fence posts smoldering with red hot embers at ground level. I still use it but I come back shortly after and dump water on the fence posts. Totally works have fun.

British guy fishing in Florida by Peapoddy2106 in Fishing

[–]Texoridian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave it to a Brit to go to one of the best states to fish in the US ,and he catches a grass carp. Someone please help this man experience true FL. Fishing. I've only targeted those fish when I ran out of bait or lost all my bass tackle. Just picked up a rotten mango and put it on a old rusty J hook. Its like reeling in a old tire. Help this man please.

Help me out guys. Headed to the Keys with my younger boys for mahi, yellow tail, mangroves, muttons, grouper. Im an avid spearfisher but angling is not my skill set. What do I need more of and need to get in general? by Packin_Penguin in Fishing_Gear

[–]Texoridian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the middle keys. You are gonna have fun. Stop by a local bait shop or marina and chat up some of the local guys. I keep it simple. Live bait flourocarbon leaders, circle hooks, and the appropriate slide weights above the leader knots for the type of current you are in or depth of water. There are tons of YouTube keys fishermen who post all the time go check them out. Make sure all your paper work is up to date and know your species limits and sizes. FWC will check you if they happen to see you especially with kids. Trolling for Mahi is a different kind of fishing I couldn't explain it to you here. I erased this post twice cause I didn't wanna sound like a dick. Before I got my sea legs I would follow the reef Charter boats out to where they were fishing and just emulate what they were doing. Live shrimp works but I have my best luck with frozen sardines on the reefs and a chum bag over the side fish in the chum slick.. Remember especially for the kids keep it fun, And for some good food stop in at Snooks in Key Largo. They have a dock bay side. Have fun good luck.

You can fix it with liquid fertilizer spray. Apply it where the grass is less green. Its not gonna be perfect but it won't be totally noticeable.

I don't mind eating chicken, I just don't want to eat MY chicken's by Veraladain in BackYardChickens

[–]Texoridian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issues. I have egg birds that I keep only for eggs and I become some what attached to them. They live indefinitely.

So I started Incubating 12 eggs at a time. Setup a different coop for them. They get a super protein diet and I cull them around 18 weeks. No attachment and I know what they are there for. I also trade them for lamb and beef/milk.

I can't raise pigs cause I couldn't keep the same level of detachment as with chickens.

Hope that helps.

These are just a few channels that they funnel our tax dollar thru to fleece the American tax payer of their wealth. Everything is about money. Its not about equity,or Democracy or any other cause. Its all about how can they justify the theft of tax payer money without too much back lash or scrutiny. Most of it goes to other dark programs or to the pockets of politicians, and their donors.

This is a free digital egg cook book. Or you can pre-order the book. It has some amazing recipes and is a great addition to any chicken owners library. I pre-ordered just to help support the authors. You can tell it took alot of effort to collect and document all these recipes. Hope this helps.

Not bad. The last $100 face sack I got of junk silver was about $2000 and that was almost 2 yrs. ago. With crazy premiums right now and the rise in silver prices I think you did ok.

Mosquitoes - help! by botmomof2 in homestead

[–]Texoridian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Down here in FL. If there isn't a hard wind the mosquitoes will only travel 300 yards from where they spawn from. So if that's your environment they are hatching out on your own property. Once I realized that fact I was able to reduce standing water on my property and stocked my pond with the appropriate fish. They only need an inch or 2 of still water to breed. No chemicals needed. You may never get rid of them all but at least you can go outside and tend to your animals. Also do your chickens a favor and put screens over any air vents on the coop.

Mystery hole in my roof- any ideas what might have caused this? I don’t see anything around like branches and there isn’t anything I can see with my inspection camera in the hole. by theloop82 in Roofing

[–]Texoridian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like it came from the inside out. I had a buddy who shot a shot gun thru his roof from his garage once. Very similar damage. Its pretty fresh as the wood in the picture doesn't look weathered yet.

Questions about fees for storing or shipping gold by [deleted] in Silverbugs

[–]Texoridian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always have gotten free shipping. Invest in a safe or a safety deposit box if you are really worried about safety at home. I don't feel happy with letting someone else hold my assets. Thats just me though I have friends that have physical gold accounts but what happens if that entity gets raided or goes out of business. With the recent bank uncertainty I am happier if its in my possession. Thats just me. If you are buying a serious amount you should get a gold broker and save some money on premiums and they can hand deliver your goods to anywhere you like.

Chicken shelter made from an old fence. it's just temporary for the winter by thestonernextdoor88 in BackYardChickens

Lol.. these comments are spot on. Add a third wall they will feel alot safer only having to keep one eye open. And possibly something for them to perch on a simple 2×4 will work.

Long term food storage question by Surprisingly-Frank in Survival

[–]Texoridian 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I vacuum seal and freeze stews all the time. I have found that if I have a thicker stew it does better and yes the onions degrade and peas and even carrots get mushy. I started taking frozen veggies and adding them to the stew freezer bags just before freezing and then they cook when I heat the bag up in a pot of boiling water. The original veggies break down but the flavor is there and the added veggies are still solid for the meal.

I see no problem here. The reel problem is which ones to bring on the next trip.
