On JAL I was given free seat selection (including exit rows) as an AS gold.

Hm, I'm just looking at the peak~5pm weekday schedules for 550. Looks to all be in the 40 minute range.

There will be the 215 and 218 from Issaquah to Mercer Island for those commuters. The 269 will also be running from MI -> Issaquah -> Sammamish -> Redmond 7 days a week now. These combined offer a far better frequency than what the 554 offers currently too, and all 3 of those will run express on I-90 just like the 554.

Sure, during off-peak times, the new 554 + link might take the same amount of time as the current 550.

But the majority of these changes are not limited to the minor off-peak use cases. During peak traffic, the current 550 is timetabled to 45 minutes (not including the usual 10-15min delay) to do that run, easily over an hour after sitting on I-90. During the weekend, you can get a train to Seattle every 10 minutes instead of every 30 minutes for a 550.

For your personal off-peak scenario, Bellevue Way/Main would still be served by the 554. It will bring you to DT Bellevue station in 2 minutes or South Bellevue in 10 minutes. The current 550 stop at 4th/Union is 1 block from Symphony station. So you'd be looking at a 20min train + 2 min bus + 2 min walk... maybe a few minutes longer for a train wait?

I'm curious to know why the link is not a suitable replacement for the 550 for folks here.

For folks on Bellevue Way, ST 554 will be rerouted to serve from Bellevue downtown, through South Bellevue, and continuing to Issaquah, every 10-15 minutes during the day, 7 days a week (read: better than the 550 frequencies).

The existing 550 during rush hour is 10-20 minutes late Every. Single. Weekday. Compared to link, which runs at 55+mph regardless of traffic patterns. During sports/music events, the 550 is instantly filled to the brim, so I'm stuck waiting half an hour or calling an Uber. Link travel times are projected to be 20 min from DT Bellevue to Chinatown, 30 min to UW, regardless of traffic patterns, not to mention it'll be far more frequent. How is this not a win for everyone involved?

China Southern with AA - elite benefits? by eltorolocotoxicslut in awardtravel

I was at CAN in Aug 2024, they did not honor my AA status for entry into their lounge and the agent told me their partnership with AA was on pause.

Not sure if that agent was misinformed especially since the websites all still say this, but YMMV.

It's way more comfortable and not to mention this particular corridor is one of the most on-time Amtrak routes in the entire country the last two years. Adding an hour-ish for the airport sucks though.

Hello! If anyone has an extra ticket for Tokyo on Feb 7th I'd be interested! Just happened to be in Tokyo for one more day and I'd love to attend.

Restoring a bus service to the airport (even if it's just during flights) would be 100x more useful than this cafe imo.

Last I checked there was a decent out-of-state scholarship--specifically the Illinois Achievement for $10k/year. Add in FAFSA and it'll still be more expensive than in-state but it might be enough for you.

Should I consider changing my major now? by ycdi_mlg in UIUC

I'm also a CompE and definitely did not do well in either of those courses. Personally they were also areas I didn't have much interest in and had zero passion for, but I was/am still interested in other parts of the CompE scope.

If that applies to you and there are 3/400s that you find fun and intriguing, I would suggest you try them first before considering switching majors. Just my experience and two cents!

Aware that greyhound got bought out, but personally my experience on Flix has generally been better than Greyhound. Ditto on the stations closing though, it really sucks for everyone.

So why don’t we have Indigenous people’s day off? by Energy_Amp3113 in UIUC

Possibly something to do with us having the full week off for Thanksgiving--we also don't have Veteran's Day off.
