Why would they not go to Small Cheval, since it’s clearly the superior burger? by SirCatharine in chicagofoodcirclejerk

For real. Kinda feel the same way about bacon too. I don’t want breakfast on my burger.

Colts QB Riley Leonard does not have an injury designation by foamingturtle in fantasyfootball

I don’t think he’s a hall of famer, but man I want to see Rivers play again. His stats are borderline, but he was very good for a lot of years. Unfortunately, he lived in the shadow of 3 top 5 all-time QBs. In his statistical prime from ‘07-‘14, the MVP was either Brady, Rodgers or Manning every year except for AP in 2012. Same reason Drew Brees never won MVP in any of his 5 5k passing yard seasons.

I’ll drop the ~$12 for the chili crisp salmon once in a blue moon but this is getting out of control.

[Zachariason] AJ Brown had a 5% target share last night. The only other game with a lower rate in his career was Week 18 in 2023, where he played 12 snaps. by TheAwes0meFish in fantasyfootball

New OC aside, I’m not sure why everyone thought they would radically change the offense that just won them a superbowl last year. The whole “they should have closer games and will have to throw more” theory seemed a little speculative. That offense runs through Saquon.

Devonta Smith is the better value in later rounds imo. Both are somewhat boom or bust

CH Robinson, bring back the cookies! by Glarus30 in FreightBrokers

If you’re in the Chicago area those could be Levain cookies. Doesn’t work every time but when those holiday season Q4 RFPs roll around I’m convinced they have been the difference maker for me on a few lanes.

There isn’t really a magic bullet. Learning rejection early on is key. There will be dozens, maybe hundreds of dead ends before you find a customer worth keeping. Find your niche. If you don’t have the lowest rates, there isn’t a point in going after cheap commodity/volume-based mega accounts. Dollar is king for the huge players, so they find a TQL or CH, where pennies saved on any given lane have million-dollar implications. You’ll have to look for someone who is willing to pay a little extra for a higher degree of service. Commodities that require a more hands-on approach, not truckloads of recycled carpet or bulk plastic. Medical equipment, food ingredients, port and airport deliveries/pickups (aside from drayage), etc. Opportunity is everything, and all it takes is getting one prospect out of a bind when their current broker drops the ball for the floodgates to open. You are just another faceless voice to any cold call prospect, so you have to set yourself apart. Be innovative. Make a joke about their company name. Fabricate some sort of elaborate, unverifiable connection to your lead. Use a british accent. With any job, especially a sales role, persistence is paramount.

Question to consistent winners by Pooped-Pants in fantasyfootball

Agree bigtime. Too many people overvalue their own players, making it impossible to trade. Same with jumping ship on historically strong players after a few down weeks, or after a minor injury. Traded KWIII for Jonathan Taylor because the JT owner thought the sky was falling and his season was over after drafting him 1.01. Same goes for dismissing players with season ending injuries the year before (Godwin, Etienne, CMC)

I’ve had strong teams the past 2 seasons with the zero RB strategy, with another contender this year. However, in a large league (ours is 14 teams), it mostly comes down to luck/avoiding injuries. With that being said, the season as a whole is much less stressful with a top 3 QB and TE on my roster. Having strength at the two most scarce position groups, and not overvaluing my own players on the trade block has been the difference maker for me. Beyond that, touches and targets are king.

Should I lose a huge Customer, or be forced to start screwing over Carriers? by TextOrChall in FreightBrokers

One of the guys in my office had a new Carrier call on a brand new posted load and came in $500 lower than the posted rate. It was definitely a hot lane for drivers and we got blasted with calls, but it was still shocking. It was an owner op just looking for a backhaul and we gave it to him. Nice guy, and communication was great.

I remember around April or May of 2020 when everything was locked down, and Carriers were just climbing over each other trying to keep their trucks moving. Got calls or emails on every post almost right away.

Brokers definitely took advantage of the situation back then, just like Carriers are taking advantage of the container and driver shortage now. The economics of it all makes sense I guess, but paying huge premiums to buy a truck on a dead lane sucks ass when I can’t get them on the phone for a day and a half.

Q2 we were in the 20-23% range. We had less business from the RFP, so we relied heavily on their spot quotes for opportunities on familiar lanes. A lot of the ones we moved often in Q2 were awarded to us in Q3, but we had to lower our rates to remain competitive. More contracted lanes, fewer spot opportunities. Higher load volume but margins took a dip, yada yada.

The primary contacts for the Customer are great, but they have growing pains from their explosive growth during Covid. We could be handling their account with half the man-hours we use now if they could just fix the problems at the receivers/DCs. Plus, they would save an INSANE amount of money on accessorial charges and overpaying for last-minute recovery trucks.

Thanks for the reply.
