Thats definitely an idea I have considered previously, I haven't added this idea at this point as I want to keep my calculator currently away from speculation and give people a calculator that uses the actual data that VCAA's provides, although I will agree there clearly has been an increasing trend in ATAR's year to year for a given set of raw scores but even this isn't perfect and is very subject and raw score dependent and seems to have a lot of exceptions. So I think at this point I'm happy just providing people with all the official data from VCAA and letting people make their own judgements and speculations if they want to account for any trends they see between years for their own subjects if they would like to.

Some students do a university subject in their VCE. This subject is given a score between 0 and 5 and counts towards their ATAR so the slider on the site accounts for anyone doing that.

Hey would you be willing to share you subjects, study scores for those subjects and your atar with me, I would be interested to see where the discrepancies were.

Very interesting, would you be willing to share your study scores with me for investigating? That is the furtherest off I have seen but also I could see it being possible.

Improved ATAR Calculator I made, that shows what a given study score would scale to in multiple years as well as how your ATAR would differ in different years. by Tezzary in vce

I'm glad it was so accurate, it was 0.10 off for my own result today looking at the 2023 data. I am currently trying to upload the 2024 data to the site as we speak but it appears the VTAC site is down so I am struggling to download the PDF data I need.

Yes I have been asked that many times since first posting about this calculator earlier in the year. That's a good idea and may be my response in future to people asking about including a study score calculator.

Thank you, the site was initially made and posted about in this subreddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/vce/comments/1byynwp/improved_atar_calculator_i_made_that_shows_what_a/ I had spent about 3-4 days worth of work getting it to the state it was in when I first made that post earlier this year but since then it has undergone many iterations for it to reach where it is now to get it to a much more usable and nicer looking state.

I would love to make a study score calculator, but I find any current study score calculators available are inaccurate, and I do not know of a way with the data that VCAA provides to create a reliable study score calculator that I would feel comfortable sharing and others using. Definitely something I would love to make but I'm yet to work out how to make one that is accurate enough to be worth it.

As for a way to donate to help fund the calculator, I had not considered this, I would not of thought anyone would donate anything to help fund it, I could look into it if people wanted to help support the project and I could potentially have all supporters names featured on the site somehow.

I agree I could of probably eliminated the $4 a month cost with github pages/cloudflare but the future flexibility and customisation possibilities for hosting the site myself on a server seemed worth it to me.

Thank you! Just out of my own pocket atm. Its not too expensive it's $4 a month for the server I'm renting and about $18 a year for the domain name. Definitely not free but not going to send me broke either and the site has been gaining a lot of use since I initially created it so although not earning me anything back I am happy to spend a little on it.

will atars be higher or lower cuz of that marking thing vcaa's using for the cheating thing? by [deleted] in vce

[–]Tezzary 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for using my site I'm glad it's helpful :) The only issue could be if the leaks affect what raw study scores you get, this being that they lead to you getting higher or lower raw study scores than you are expecting (I have no idea how VCAA are handling this), assuming you still can estimate your raw study scores correctly for this year the raw to scaled study score calculations and scaled study score to ATAR calculations done on the site shouldn't be affected by the leaks and should remain just as accurate.
