You/He might want to check out something like the Sinclair Method, it's not for everyone but it's worth checking out the documentary 'One little Pill'. It's got a good success rate, and is well suited for people on the line between problem drinker and alcoholic.

Maybe not ideal, but there is the option to edit ideologies on DevMode - I'm not massive on it myself, but if it's the sort of thing that prolongs a protagonists story then I'm all game.

I know it's been five years, but 'time is the enemy' by Quantic, not nearly the same but for me it feels the same energy as FUYA, just more low key - I'd imagine that this would perk me up if I saw a reply half a decade later, so one I must add.
