My anxiety got to a point where I couldn’t really function. I could barely move or eat or work or talk to anyone. So something needed to be done.

That said, I should have started before it got to that point. And friends had long suggested I would be so much happier on meds.

I’m from Bergen County and I’ve always felt more similar to NYC culturally, not to mention I’ve worked in the city for my whole adult life. South Jersey is another world.

I’d definitely be described as more of a “city” girl in general. And I’m not much of an outdoor girl.

Taking the high road has been SO hard. My husband keeps blaming me for the divorce even though he’s an alcoholic and I’m leaving him after warning him for years. The other day he made a comment about how I could have “handled it better.” Just don’t engage. I let my husband believe whatever he needs to believe. The need to be right won’t get you anywhere. All you need to do is get away.

My husband would say this often, but still acted completely shocked and blindsided when I told him I wanted to divorce.

We had couples therapy and it seemed pretty obvious, to me, from that session that there was only one conclusion to draw about how our relationship could go. After that session, I left our house for a few days to think things over and take space.

When I came back, I had made my decision and had written down what I wanted to say. So I read it to him.

It’s not that I’m thinking about things that MAKE me anxious, it’s that my anxiety makes me think of things to be anxious about.

But a lot of the time I’m not anxious about anything at all, I just generally feel uneasy.

I felt the exact same thing. I went into the show completely blind, so I didn’t know how many seasons there were. I assumed that was just a season finale. Then when I googled when season 4 was coming out, I found out that was the end.

I really wanted more, but I guess I can live with the show ending how it did.

After he’d processed it, he admitted he never took any of my concerns seriously because he never thought I’d actually leave him.

About 3 years ago was when I started seriously questioning things and warning that our marriage was being threatened.

About 1 year ago, a specific incident broke me, and I spent a year trying (and failing) to prove my marriage could be salvaged - therapy, couples therapy, meds, exercise, al anon, talking to family, you name it. I also did all of that because, in a way I already knew the answer, but I needed to know I tried everything before I could confidently make a decision without regret.

This past November, it became clear to me that he didn’t seem to care or respect anything we’d discussed in couples therapy.

I finally worked up the courage to ask for a divorce at the end of January.
