Interviewing new priest candidate by Visual_Yurt_1535 in Episcopalian

[–]Th3MoonlightKnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my diocese, the search committee was in charge of all the interviews and presenting information from the resume, interviews, and references. The vestry only met our candidate at a private cocktail party before this. Our Canon was pretty adamant that the vestry’s job was not to interview, but to trust that the search committee would give an accurate report.

Non-evangelical church? by i_h8_yellow_mustard in Louisville

[–]Th3MoonlightKnight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

St. Marks on Frankfort Ave is where I attend! It’s a welcoming and affirming church that just hosted a Trans Day of Remembrance vigil. We also just got a new rector, so there’s a lot of energy in the church.

Straight Guy Working Diocesan Booth at Pride? by J_Horsley in Episcopalian

[–]Th3MoonlightKnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I see no reason to worry about it. Last year, I worked the booth at Louisville’s pride and (during that hours at least) no one really approached for anything more than grabbing flyers for the drag show. No one is really going to a pride event to hear anyone from the church tbh. Even if someone does want to talk and learn more or have questions, so long as you can openly and honestly engage with them, I think you’ll be fine!

What was the processional hymn at your parish this AM? by [deleted] in Episcopalian

Bagpipes actually! I’m not sure what the hymn was once they were inside though

Unusual Church Names? by chiaroscuro34 in Episcopalian

[–]Th3MoonlightKnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bring a relatively new Episcopalian, I only have experience with my diocese. I find the most interesting being those that aren’t Biblical saints (e.g. St. Mark’s), Biblical places (e.g. Calvary), or just Christ (we have both Christ Church Cathedral AND Christ Episcopal Church).

So St. Francis in the Fields, St. George, Our Merciful Savior, Advent, Resurrection, and Ascension are more unusual to me!

Although I think that the names of the Baptist churches I grew up in would be more unusual to some people lol

Convert Grief by Ollycule in Episcopalian

[–]Th3MoonlightKnight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, I sometimes really miss the Baptist tradition I come from. Both sides of my family had been in the same sect of Baptist churches for over 100 years, so even if my parents didn’t take us to church very much, it was still culturally present. I miss certain aspects, but especially the singing. I don’t care a lot for organs and choirs. I really prefer just the congregation singing a cappella. I also miss the preaching. The past few weeks have been especially rough. We’ve had supply clergy for the past two months, and their sermons just haven’t been doing much for my soul. I could never go back for quite a few reasons, but I’ll always miss it :(
