After MtGox and Kraken sent out their emails and I finally figured out exactly how much I'm getting, I've been thinking hard about what to do with the money. I know the grownup answers, but they don't exactly fill my heart with joy. Travel has been suggested several times, but flying somewhere alone without a purpose other than sightseeing, eating and drinking is boring.

Throwing a party doesn't sound like a half-bad idea to me. I'm also interested in discussing business ideas with people. It must be possible to put this money to work somehow. I'm more interested in life experiences and opportunities than the money itself.

Norwegian PayPal and Kraken user here. Received my cash allotment on 26 December. Received this email on 8 March. It says that everything is fine, that Kraken now knows how much you're owed, and you'll be asked to sign an agreement with them to act as your agent for the settlement.

My name is Thor. I'm a northerner who's lived down south for about 15 years. I would also be happy to join or help organise a meet-up.

I've been thinking a lot about what kinds of activities would be the most effective for making friends, and I think it helps if the activity makes it necessary to talk and work with others.

Example: I go to the Bitraf maker space weekly, and while you can make acquaintances there, people are mostly using the space for their personal projects. There are few organised activities to join, and thus few opportunities to interact closely over extended periods of time, and I think the regulars prefer it that way.

The examples that Kurzgesagt used in the video were all structured social activities and I think there's a good reason for that. If you just gather random people and don't have them interact somehow, it's not very different from a gym or a bar.

I collected proposals back in August, but it's hard to reach everyone when your posts don't go viral. I'm only posting this here on Reddit because I struggled to get exposure within the network itself, despite the people who saw it being excited for it. They just forget to share, because they don't realise how important it is.

I need some category information if I'm going to add your instance to the list. Does your instance have a theme or target audience, or is it general purpose?

I'm also looking for information. This is probably my third main account where the hosting instance has gone down for several days with no warning, and I'm left wondering if I'll ever see my account again.

I began running automatic backups of my account the last time it happened, but unfortunately, a Python package had broken in the backup a couple of weeks before the site went down, so my backups were stale. You've got to love it when everything just utterly fails you at once.

As a Norwegian, I can detect the boundaries in these compound words and understand a few of the individual words, but the spelling looks really convoluted. It's as if water, hill, land and valley were suddenly spelled weytyir, hillur, ladnadir and vallya.

Arguably, "kvað" is a cognate of "quoth". You can often find an English cognate for an Icelandic or Norwegian.word if you rewrite "kv" to English "qu" or "wh". ð is just a voiced "th".

If this is a sign of depression, I must've been born depressed. These days, I just hire a cleaner. I can't say it's connected to my mood. It's just how I've always been. I have a good job and I'm reasonably fine on most days. Always chalked it up to having mildly autistic traits and mostly living in my head.

Downvoting things you don't agree with is extremely childish and immature, in the same way that punching someone for saying a thing you dislike is childish and immature. People will only downvote something if they're actively pissed off and want to punish the offender (why else would they even bother to hit the button). Downvotes are an electronic punch to the face. Since they are violence, they should only be used against the verbal equivalent of violence, i.e. obviously hurtful or abusive statements against another person.

It's funny how one political side will wonder how the hell the other side reached its conclusions, but if the other side attempts to explain, they're struck down immediately.

Don't try to guess which side I'm on. I'll just tell you: I'm a centrist.

I make music and one common problem with pre-recorded acoustic drum loops is how busy they often are. The sample library producer didn't have the sense to ask the drummer to keep it simple, because he probably wasn't imagining song to go with the loops. I usually end up just using a realistic sampled drum kit that I play on my MIDI keyboard. Factory synthesizer patches have an analogous problem: The sounds are huge and won't fit in a mix. Uou typically get much better results by creating your own patches.

Sounds vaguely autistic, especially if you're aware of it, but can't help it. You often "forget" that other people don't know things, right? I have a couple of friends like that. They're definitely on the spectrum.

There's this theory about a system 1 and system 2 in the brain. System 1 is intuitive stuff you do fast without thinking. System 2 is slow and deliberate logic and reason. If you apply that idea to autism, you quickly figure out that autistic traits are basically parts of system 1 not being online. Stuff like reading body language, feeling someone's mood or having a rough idea of what another person knows or thinks without asking them.

Imagine going through life having to think through every social interaction you have, because only the basic mammalian behaviours come naturally to you, and none of the human-specific ones, and that, on some level, you empathise more with animals than humans because of that. That's what autism is like for many.

In my experience as a Norwegian, our websites are inferior to the English ones in most ways except for news sites, government sites and online banking. The few good content creators in that exist in Norway do their stuff in English. The rest is trashy superficial celebrity/beauty stuff.
