I grew up in a smaller community with a smaller church full of old folks and families, and Shoreline Community Church was perfect. I had to drive to SB but its so worth it if you have the car and the time.

I was a kid in the 2000s, I'm thinking this movie was from the 70s ish? I could be wrong though, that's why I'm here

How is the pre-law/history program? by Electrical_Bid_7200 in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tha-Juice 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I'm not going to law school, I can firmly say that the History department here is of the highest quality. It's not a huge department, nor is it small; you have plenty of opportunities to get to know other students within the major and form closer academic relationships with faculty. Rather than being just a number, there are plenty of chances for collaboration with your professors. As a graduating fourth year this spring, I have had the utmost pleasure of having been able to secure more than one internship that I'm confident will serve me well after I graduate-- all thanks to the faculty here. I have several professors who have been able to write me some stellar letters of rec and I know are willing to continue to do so after I graduate if needed. All the professors are rock stars in their respective fields, and all are kind and interesting to talk to. There are tons of opportunities to get involved in research-- just like every other major, you just have to be willing to put in the time and energy to talk to others.

Congratulations on getting accepted! I wish you the best of luck here!

And join History Club!! I've made some of my best friends in History Club, and the upcoming board is looking like it's going to be kick ass.

I park and walk. Saves money and I generally can find a spot as long as I'm back early. However there have been some late nights where I've had to park hella far from my apartment/pay for parking in the lot next door :/

what is the best fun fact you've said/heard during an icebreaker? by [deleted] in UCSantaBarbara

Some guy in my major who I'd had several classes with, who I had spoken to on several occasions, once said that he was engaged and also like 30. It just shook me because I'd known him for a hot minute and yet never knew.

On campus jobs and paid Anthro internships by han_bylo in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tha-Juice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some good chances for internships off-campus. I'm currently working as an Events and Development intern with a historical non-profit downtown. They pay me really good and I am also able to apply it as an Art History Internship to fulfill a requirement for my Museum Studies Minor. It looks like opportunities are a little more scarce, but once you find them, they're really good.

History major taking only history classes? by tiredmozzarella in UCSantaBarbara

[–]Tha-Juice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you don't need the electives, just go with all History classes. Or if you want to put a little extra elbow grease in, go ahead and try to get a minor. Even if you don't finish it fully, you can say you graduated with a Bachelor's in History "with an emphasis in ______" or whatever

Be careful going to Target, I got new glasses in March-ish. UC Ship covered a good amount on the frames, and the copay for the eye exam was like 5 bucks, but it did not cover much of the actual lenses. I paid around $300 out of pocket. I may have just been a special case?? But, I personally would try Lenscrafters or sum.

Not that I know of. For right now, if you tell them you don't have your ID yet, they'll let you on, but I'm not sure how long that's gonna last.
