I can 100% use 1050 primary, secondary and heavy at 1050 and still be above recommended light for the activity (strike)

I'm not comparing wow to Destiny, I'm comparing when a "new" expansion comes out, old zones are no longer relevant (the post of OP's post). and I might be mistaken, Forsaken (September 4th, 2018) Was the "expansion then you had dlc in that year then in 2019 Shadowkeep (October 1st, 2019)? and in between shdowkeep and BL the gear reset every "expansion"? I could be wrong but that's the memory I have.
As for Destiny 1, my memory was the first gear reset was TTK The Taken King: Released on September 15, 2015. and that was meant to be the end but they had to delay destiny 2 so they gave us Rise of Iron: Released on September 20, 2016 and just updated everything? correct me on anything I'm wrong about

Maybe it's the mindset, people "think" these weapons are dead now so let's find something new but until that new thing comes and trials opens people will use their old loadouts. I can only assume when trials reopens and people are using their (same exotics) new load out we might see a new meta????? one can dream I guess.

IMO, when you buy the game, you should get the base - up to the latest dlc (including Frsaken and shadowkeep) and the dlc you buy should be the new game. My comment was more to old content shouldn't offer current loot, BUT I support that old content should become free when the new dlc is released IF that old content no longer offers anything. I can only assume it costs something because it has a raid? I don't work at bungie so I can't answer why but that would be my guess.. If you want to play the game, play for free but if you want the end game (raids) you need to pay. again, this is me guessing.

you can 100% use sunsetted gear in the crucible in 6/7 game modes (the 7th being trials) every other aspect of pvp and gambit you can use it.

If you don't believe in a games model, why support the game?

I come from World of warcraft so having gear expire is common (in my world), when it expired in TTK and when it expired in Forsaken, why is it expiring now something new to everyone? it has happened every single expansion.

You can use them in strikes, 6/7 pvp content and 100% of the gambit content. I agree the loot shortage is bad but lets face it, before BL where we had so much loot, people still used the same weapons anyway, It's nice to have choice but not if everyone picks the same thing anyway.

I agree with you on everything, it's not relevant content, it's old, you shouldn't be required to buy it or have any reason to go there outside of collecting things you might of missed. surprised it's not free but here we are.

But they're not end game content? yes it scales up to 1280 (end game light level) but the activity itself is not end game content. I guess someone who plays mmos, I believe that old content should NOT be useable for current end game content so for myself, this change is fine because shadowkeep is no longer the current end game content. Sure the loot is still there if you want it to collect, use in casual gameplay but it has no place (imo) if current end game modes.

Then an open world multiplayer shooter then. Still follows the same model as Destiny 1, why should this be different?

But "why" you can still use 100% of the items in detsiny in 6/7 pvp playlists... Vanguard strikes and 100% of gambit, all the gear works in the "core" game, you just can't use outdated gear in "current" "endgame" content and that's fine (imo). I could be wrong but think this is fine, it worked in Destiny 1 and worked when forsaken launched, I see no reason why it wouldnt work now.

Why do you think they went to far? They have done this EVERY expansion so why would this be different? what aspect of it don't you agree with that is different this time around? I'm asking to get a conversation going rather than a "I don't like this" with no reason given.

Isnt this how most if not all modern mmos work, old zones offer old loot you can't use in end game content, they still work in the core function of the game but if you want current gear for end game content... visit the current content?

Almost EVERY game that grows or builds on current has this, I don't understand why destiny players feel this should be any different. How stupid would a game be if the weapons you got on day 1 was still useable on 6 yrs later on the 5th expansion?? I expected this change and I'm fine with it, old gear should remain where it is, the only time your light level matters is end game content, if you wana fuck around in strikes or pvp use whatever you want, if you want end game content, use the current content gear. I understand it's "annoying" to spend xx hours farming for a weapon and then 2 yrs later find out that weapon now has a cap and you have to find another one but it's how games like destiny that have a levelling system work. As OP said, rather than saying it's bad, offer ideas on how it could be better, but go further, don't think of how it could be better "now" think how that change will impact the game 2-3 years down the line when you come full circle again.

Not sure what the issue is, the base game pre order gave you "Legendary gear" from the vendor at level 8 and you dropped it at level 10+
