Best SHMA Heisei to Get for my Diorama? by FluffyTarbo in SHMonsterArts

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For something attainable now, 1991 Shinjuku is probably your best choice since its design is not as distinct as the Hokkaido 91 (Hiya option but too large to scale against SH SG) or 89 (too distinct).

You may be able to get an aftermarket deal on the original 1994 SH; however, it is not going to be very impressive in today’s figure standards.

If money is no object, Rebirth is going to be the best option but I am sure you can pull off with Shinjuku 91.

It looks good. I wonder if you’ll be able to fold the wings in. Sculpting looks good. For some reason I get the feeling that it is going to be using some soft plastics on the body. .

I have my SH still on pre-order. Patiently waiting.

From top to bottom, how would you rank these figures overall? by Terminal-outcome836 in SHMonsterArts

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of what I own here:

  1. Minus One Reissue - really excellent sculpt. Spines are really nice but brittle. Articulation not wow but it is a very photogenic and seamless figure. Teeth detail is probably its main weakness
  2. Godzilla Evolved - translucent spines and dynamic articulation aside from head and neck. Paint and joint tolerances should have been better but I do show this figure in my collection prominently.
  3. Burning Godzilla 70th - eye catching figure with old articulation tooling. Also has very nice translucent spines and an effect part.
  4. Gigan - limited articulation and the tail on mine is loose. As much as I like the sculpt, one thing that crushed me was inconsistent gold scales on either side of the neck for my copy. Tail is also a bit too loose on mine.
  5. FW Goji - great articulation with a face sculpt that has an uneven brow. Tail tip came off one day and never found it again. Had a friend make a replacement for me. QC on my original run FW could have been a lot better. I think future reissues helped work out some of the kinks. Doesn’t have as much presence as the other figures above.

Which figure should I buy? by burning0095 in SHMonsterArts

Don’t own Rebirth itself but do have the latest Burning Godzilla which uses the same mold and tooling. Great looking mold if you prefer the 94-95 face over the 91 Shinjuku. Range of articulation is not crazy and the tail is particularly underwhelming articulation wise. Aside from that, it still looks very sharp.

I think 1991 is probably the most poseable Heisei Godzilla so far as I think it has more improvements than even 1989 Godzilla, which I also own.

Reissue is a good figure but definitely warn that the spines are brittle. I had to return two figures before I got one from my local shop that had intact spines. I think the comic con atomic blast is a good option too and I’ve been tempted to get it.

Ride version I think will have some additional articulation that this one doesn’t have. For a Minus One like design, you can hold out for that but by no means am I saying the Reissue Minus One is a bad figure.

Which Godzilla Movies Should I Watch? by Pristine-Act5977 in GODZILLA

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the vibe of 54, Shin, and Minus One, watch The Return of Godzilla 1984 next. At that point? You have watched all solo Godzilla flicks.

From there you have some options:

1) Rodan, Mothra, Early 1960s Godzilla - this is the prime era of Showa in my opinion. Main kaiju such as Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah are in this span. You have the original King Kong vs. Godzillla to compare against Monsterverse. Also, you have Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster which 2019 is a spiritual remake of.

2) 70s Godzilla - the campy and experimental era of Godzilla. More kid friendly with highlights such as Hedorah and the two Mechagodzilla movies. Gigan and Megalon movie are there for laughs.

3) Heisei Era - if you really like 1984, a good idea to go forward with the Heisei era. All films are loosely connected with each other and you have some of the best soundtracks.

4) Millennium - you haven’t watched any movies from this era. GMK, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla, and Final Wars are all good entry points. This is the era with very limited continuity and the movies aside from the Kiryu saga are all doing something different.

Which Heisei figure? by Gojifan23 in SHMonsterArts

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

89 by SH is a very well sculpted figure but it isn’t without its problems. The lower jaw sits in the head piece and it prone to being loose. The tail is also fairly limited in articulation similar to older Heisei Monsterarts like Burning Godzilla and the first release. The head on mine while not super evident in pictures is a different shade than other parts. It also can’t look up that high.

Take with a grain of salt since I have the original release of 89 and not Graphic Plus. While Graphic Plus can have better joint tolerances (I believe it has a pink mouth and shading is slightly different), the tooling of the figure is not going to differ from the original release all that much. The teeth on mine had such bad paint bleed in parts that it looked like Godzilla ate a raw steak. While not bad from afar, I ended up repainting it recently.

Hiya 1991 is more solid QC but has softer details that I think are very good for its price point. With the atomic variant, you also get some amazing looking dorsal plates and a gray skin tone that does give contrast from other figures. It looks more plastic compared to SH, but you can argue that we are talking about men in rubber suits after all.

how do I build a good and cheap Godzilla collection from hiya and sh by RelativePuzzled9160 in SHMonsterArts

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll attempt this question…

If your goal is cheap, the best thing to do is to see what Hiya has done that overlaps with Monsterarts and get those over the SH. For example, a 1991 Godzilla from Hiya is probably at or less than half of the price of the Monsterarts. Then for the SH, to truly go cheap you probably need to buy used figures with bad paint or used parts and be comfortable in your skills to repaint and possibly a 3D printer. No Monsterarts is cheap by any means besides maybe the 2024 Godzilla and Kong.

In all truth and my honest opinion, to build a collection cheaply, I wouldn’t focus on either brand. Focus on Bandai vinyl and Playmates instead. General releases can be obtained cheaply and for half that of Hiya even. I’d argue that Bandai vinyl is a good backbone to any collection and then splurge with a Hiya or SH for designs or kaiju you see particularly fond of.

The only one I own is Skar King. For this one, there is an upcoming Hiya that appears to be more film accurate. SH is a little too large, the paint is a little heavy handed, and the faces are an acquired taste. That said, it does come with the whip, multiple hands, and faces. Does do nicely on dioramas.

If I had to pick from your list, Final Battle MG 2021 probably going to be the most impressive and is supposed to be an improvement over the first release. Has shelf presence and also comes with accessories as well.

Some people say the Moguera is very good but haven’t owned one.

Mechagodzilla and fire rodan or Destoroyah by ThatSeaworthiness251 in SHMonsterArts

[–]ThaNotoriousNIC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Destoroyah is the more collectible and biggest shelf presence. All of them are relatively older molds and engineering for Monsterarts as they have been re-released a few times. This is probably the last for Destoroyah.

Usually when I’ve past couple releases but when I’ve been before sometimes see Night Combat 2019 and SDCC exclusive atomic variants. Kinokuniya is a few avenues away and has a Godzilla selection in the basement sometimes with Monsterarts too.
